Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Damn some of the 'rumours' about poor overclocks and GTX970 performance aren't a great comfort considering I shifted a 980 to have funds for this card (was hoping for equal performance and better performance in DX12).

I won't be around at 2PM to order either so was gonna leave it to my wife, now I'm not sure so sure whether to let her pull the trigger. Any chance of early reviews being released before then?

Nda lifts at 2pm on 29th,so no reviews until then.

There will be plenty of stock. I doubt they will sell out too quickly unless the performance is actually as good as a 390X. I will still wait for a non-reference card in any case.

Don't pull the trigger blindly, it looks like you might be better off with the 980.

Well you're okay only paying in $. As for people over here it is what it is. We don't have stupidly high health insurance, different tax system, smaller market etc. so trying to compare economies based on the price of a few items doesn't work too well.
What? I live in London man. ;)

And I dont get why you're trying to defend it when this wasn't the situation just a week ago.

Thought as much... Annoying! I don't know whether to trust the leaked stuff that's been doing the rounds. Doesn't fill me with confidence though.

If it's good, then I will want to order it in time for Thursday delivery assuming that's possible just worried I won't be home in time for the cut off time for next day delivery. I also don't want to buy a dud! Decisions decisions! If I don't buy one I also don't know what else to buy other than another GTX 980, I used all my other 'free funds' to buy loads of other gadgets! :D

I sold my 980 already for 230 smackers, will have to find another one now! As a plus at least they seem to sell for under 200 quid on MM.

For a start you don't know but it was always meant to be a low power low cost card that was a match for 980 ish performance, until humbug came out of the woodwork and claimed it had 980ti performance and now everyone is disappointed in the actual original performance of the card.

You'd do good to get a RX480 IMO if you were expecting 980 performance. If you want faster then wait for Vega or get a 1070.

I'm thinking I will just keep m 980 now and wait for vega/Gp102.

The 1070 is too expensive at the moment and the RX480 looks like it would be a side grade at best. Besides I love the gaming x MSI cooler on my 980. Quietest and coolest card I have ever owned.

Unless new 980Ti's drop to ~£300 in a final sell off ( like the 780Ti's did) I will keep hold of my 980 I think.

980 performance to be honest for me was perfect at 1080p, didn't really have any games that caused me any real problems (maybe I hadn't played them).

I just fancied something new in my case without really having to pay for the sidegrade, I just really don't want a downgrade!

Don't think your alone bud, friends sold their 970's for £150

You dont need to be poor to understand the importance of value. A $230 card selling for £220 sucks.

Well not really. The reason it costs £220 is because that's the same value objectively. Now it might feel more expensive to you, if your wages don't also go up with the same inflation of the GPU, but that's really your wages going down in real terms, not the GPU going up.
