How is that relevant? It's false either way to say that the majority of people voted for the Conservatives at the last election.

So there should be a GE every time we need a new PM?
Yes...
If we had a General Election every time the PM changed then the prospective PM would need to put together a manifesto outlining what Britain would look like under their leadership. The public would get a chance to vote on whether or not they like that picture.
Without an election, should the new leader respect the old manifesto? Or should they have carte blanche to do whatever they like? I can't say I'm keen on either of those options.
TBH if it wasn't for Brexit polarising public opinion, I expect May would call an election. Labour aren't in any position to compete.
The Tory 1922 committee has said that the candidate list will not be reopened and that May's confirmation will likely be accelerated but no time frame given.
Out of interest, who did people think would be the PM?
It seemed like everyone was in agreeance that he would not see the year out regardless of whether he won or not. so who would you have said got the job if they asked you the question prior to the result.

Hes nominated and then MEPs vote I believe.
But thats undemocratic according to Leavers
Whereas May being nominated and voted on by MPs is fine.
May won her seat in Westminster via the ballot, Junker did not win a ballot in fact he in effect lost a ballot. This is an important distinction.
True, but May should really organise an early GE. Doesn't have to be this year, but 2020 is too long for a PM the public didn't directly vote for.

But the public never directly vote for a PM so your argument is illogical.
I actually think it may be a good idea for her personally to do so, because it will crush Labour and give May an undeniable mandate. On the other hand, the last thing the country needs now is more uncertainty. A strong hand at the tiller until Brexit is complete is what we need.
The Conservatives won 36.9% of the popular vote at the last general election. Nowhere near a majority, even out of those that voted.
However, this translated to a clear majority of seats under FPTP.
