Out of interest, who did people think would be the PM?

It seemed like everyone was in agreeance that he would not see the year out regardless of whether he won or not. so who would you have said got the job if they asked you the question prior to the result.

I like most others I'm guessing assumed it would be Boris which ever way we voted. I thought following a leave vote he's use Dave as a glove puppet for a bit to take the flack for everything that didn't turn out like described in the leave campaign then him and weasel boy Grove would sit next to each other on the front bench like the naughty kids at school sneaking into the staff room! If we lost I assumed he would get in before the next election as he had fought a 'brave' battle and lost honourably.

Proves how much I know and maybe how much Boris knew as well!

Boris, with Gove as chancellor. Would have been fine with that.

Gove mucked that all up though, and ruined his career in the process. Whey-Hey!...

My thoughts too. Gove is such a ****.

True, but May should really organise an early GE. Doesn't have to be this year, but 2020 is too long for a PM the public didn't directly vote for.

The press were all saying that Brown did not have a mandate from the people and there should be a GE. On Overclockers they supported this view wholeheartedly saying Brown was an illegal PM and other such nonsense. So will we have Overclockers, in the coming months, fuming about how MS May is an illegal PM and a General Election must be called?
Will pigs fly?

I'm calling for it!

It just needn't be straight away, we need an ounce (or a gram, if you're a remainer) or stability in this country for a while.

The problem with it is this fixed term parliament act, it makes it difficult to actually hold the GE if there was even a will for it within parliament.

well she doesn't seem to be interested in having one so it isn't likely to happen

in other news, for people who seem to be interested in short term moves in financial markets - the FTSE is up today as is GBP

It can still be called before that time if certain conditions apply. I thought the above too in another thread a couple of weeks ago until another poster put up a link to the wording of the Act.

Yes but those conditions make it really difficult to do. I never liked the Fixed Term Parliament Act but its intention was to ensure that Prime Ministers could not choose to call general elections any more. It's fulfilling its purpose (have to admit I'm stumped by the LibDems calling for one when it was their idea lol - surely they must have considered the possibility of a PM stepping down mid term).

You don't have to be a 'Remainer' to talk about grams as all schools now teach metric and have done for a while. The next generation will have forgotten imperial measures.

Look up the fixed term Act and it shows that you can call a GE after a vote in the Commons.

Labour will vote for an election if one is wanted so I don't think it makes much practical difference. Besides the Tories only need the normal majority to strike the act from the books, or modify it to allow their particular election, anyway.

People keep mentioning the Fixed Term Parliaments Act, but I really don't see why people are so hung up on it... Labour have called for a snap election, the Lib Dems have... if the Tories want one, they can get one. Those three have 87% of MPs.

Asking turkeys to vote for christmas I'm afraid. They have only just got their next few years in the job. The Labour MP's risking deselection for disloyalty. This does not apply to the Lib Dems OFC. The Conservatives want to maintain their mandate and manifesto as far as possible and have a shiny new leader as well.

The FTSE is day to day Casino gambling. The pound was £1.46 to the dollar then went up to £1.50 the day before the Ref. It fell to £1.33-34 for days then started another decline and touched £1.29 and is currently £1.2985. Nothing really to get overjoyed about.

May seems surprisingly keen to get us out of the EU, I thought she liked it...

Don't go, Dave. :(

Annoyed Dave has essentially had a hissy fit because he lost, he shouldn't have campaigned so vigorously in the first place.

Parliament is supposed to be supreme.

It would be rather embarrassing for May to go ahead then a judge to say she had not obeyed the letter of the law. Parliament is supreme when they pass a Law on something but can still be challenged if that another Law says something else. Hence you get Amendments.
