Road Cycling

The Elemnt is looking more and more pro.

@Bear - I think I'd be annoyed if I discovered my replacement tube was knackered when I had a puncture at the roadside. Maybe I could fit two into my tiny saddle bag..hmm.

£1.60 per tube is less than £1.90 last time I checked.:p

£1.40 if you have platinum discount.
Haha, I know I know! Now! Previously £1.40 was more expensive than my £1.19 tubes! ;)

PX used to have some cheap ones but I've not checked recently.

Then again, tubes below £1.50. Why do we even bother to repair them (I've got 6 in a bag from my old shed I should probably just throw!)

What size tubes do i want for a 700x28 tyre?
Depends on the tyre... I've got 23-25mm tubes and using some in my Mitchelin Pro4E 28mm and they fit fine. The Specialized Roubaix Pro 25x28 tyres (25mm width, 28mm volume) my Diverge came with 28-35mm tubes and they were a little on the large size for the 28mm Pro4E.
Carrying 2 crew
2 crew represent!

Although my Topeak aero wedge broke on my ride last night - seat tube velcro strap has come unstitched from the bag... In 2 minds about repairing it as the zip is getting worn out and a new one is only £11... For now I'm back to my Ortelib micro (and only carrying 1 tube)! :o

Will probably continue with it, seems a little crazy (even to me) carrying 2 tubes and a 0.7L saddlebag full of tools for my 2.4 mile commute... :p:rolleyes: Will just have another frame bag with the remainder of tools+tube I can carry on longer rides when required...

New bike purchase might have fallen through. Instead of buying a house 7 miles away from work we're now looking at one even closer than I am now, and round about 1 mile dead on to the office :(!

cancel the move - simple. put your foot down and demand at least 10 miles to work.

Doesn't matter! I/we bought a place 2.4 miles (door to door) and probably less than a mile as the crow flies (if the SAS would let me shortcut through their camp lol) and I still bought a new bike! ;)

Just 'extend' your commute to loop around and cover the distance you want. FT is good at this - 3.9 commute to 9.5 & 14.1.

Although part of my reasoning was I delayed the purchase until the house move was complete in case I needed all my savings. I thankfully didn't (hadn't planned to anyway, wanted some for 'contingencies'!) so could splash out and get what I wanted.
spending 250k+ on a house it's even easier to justify less than 2k on a new bike to the other half! ;)
Semi-related, I've got savings left so some of my 'house modification/repair' fund will be some garage development (pain cave) probably involving a 'lean to' on the back I'm intending on turbo'ing under in the autumn. Possibly a smart trainer too! ;)

Same is happening to mine right now. It's very lopsided... need to replace, but want something smaller I think. Medium is too big unless carrying toolshed.

Complained to Amazon that it hasn't lasted very long so will see if they replace.

Hahaha, glad I'm not the only one thinking like this... I currently commute 11 or so miles each way, but for a time we were looking at moving to within about 5 miles of the office. Unacceptable!

Result - they are sending a new one, no questions asked. 2 years on :D

Apart from they sent it to an address I used to live at 2 years ago... surely it doesn't take a genius to work out that none of my Amazon orders have gone there in the last 2 years - it's on the other side of the country.

Great result, guess I should do the same with mine as it did come from Wiggle... Just know they'll want it returned which is a ballache.
Eugh, too far when you just want to be home after a long day. my 5.5 miles is perfect.
I found my previous @4.4 was pretty good, a good ~20 minute ride either side of the work day.

Now I'm @2.4 it's good but I'm struggling to 'get used' to it. Some commutes it's not far enough and I'm barely warmed up (under 10 minutes ride), others it's a PITA as riding it 4 times a day can seem like a drain/drag (~40 mins riding, 20-25 mins getting changed) and will get even more 'annoying' when I'm getting wet 4 times a day.

A shorter commute does mean I hammer it 3 times a day which is probably not helping my fatigue levels (morning ride is with the other half following me and I get grief if I leave her behind!). No easy riding for me! Did smash some random wearing Tinkoff kit at lunch, he rode past as I was waiting to cross onto the cycle path (road has a terrible surface), fast enough average for you grudas? ;)

My previous 9.5 was too far as 90% of the time it was home into a headwind, which gets tedious. 2.4miles and hammering is not good, no warm up etc. 2.4 miles is just pootle in in normal clothes surely?
