Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

^ Pleased to hear that helped :)

As for the overclock, were you a vsync gamer prior to gsync? I'm just wondering if by running at a higher frame rate you're stressing the system more than previously. Might just be a case of a little more voltage will resolve the problem.

Hi yes I was a v sync gamer, capped 60fps for pretty much anything as my previous monitor was a 60hz screen, now I'm doing crazy fps in less demanding games, 300+ , rocket league was crazy fps but super smooth.

I removed my OC for now, but agree it could be a voltage issue as I bet the system is a little more stressed now due to the unlocked or higher fps I can now do.

TBH a i5 6600K turbos to 3.9 so 4.4 isn't a huge OC so its only maybe giving a few fps more. But I would like to have that as a banker for more demanding games in the future.

I'll look at it - its maybe a simple fix.

After trying a load of 144hz ips screens from other retailers but not being able to get one without terrible backlight bleed I gave up on 144hz IPS and went for the S2716dg from Overclockers.

I thought I had got a perfect panel but then I noticed that when panning across the sky I could see a horizontal band, like a shadow, spanning the screen just a bit above where the crosshair would be. Did a bit of research and discovered it's something people refer to as dirty screen effect. Once I'd noticed it I couldn't unnotice it.

Overclockers fobbed me off and got me to go through Dell for a replacement. Waited for it to arrive and not only had they send me a refurbished model to replace a brand new monitor I hadn't even had for a week, but it had been refurbished with a massive scratch down the screen! I remember thinking as I unboxed it "Hmmm, there's a lot of dust and particles and crap all over this thing" and then I realised those particles were all bits of screen that had been gouged out.

Dell took their crap monitor back and Overclockers agreed to do what they should have done in the first place, what any other retailer would do, take their monitor back and send me another. Unfortunately that one too also exhibits signs of DSE. Fainter, but instead of one prominent horizontal band there's like three faint ones I can see when the camera passes the skyline in games. Not really good enough for such an expensive monitor.

It's really hard to pick up in photos and on camera, especially as the monitor is a light source itself and the autofocus on my phone is crazy. Overclockers have told me it's my gpu or cable acting up despite the fact that I can see these horizontal bands in the monitor's diagnostic mode cycling through to a grey screen with nothing plugged into it at all. Nevermind that the same gpu and cable exhibited no such issues on my 60hz 1440p ips monitor (U2713HM).

Really unhappy with Overclockers' service. First they try to fob me off and send me Dell's way, now after already messing about with deliveries and collections over and over again they want to try telling me its my gpu despite the issue showing up in the diagnostic mode!

I sure don't want to deal with Dell again. Even if they do manage to send me one that hasn't been butchered, I'm not accepting a refurb when I paid for a new one.

Not a very happy story :(

Hope you manage to get it sorted. It's not like this is a cheap monitor

Cheers mate. As you say, they aren't cheap...

I just asked for a refund. It's getting pretty close to the 30 day mark now and I don't want to run the risk of going past that and then being stuck with a product I'm not satisfied with.

It's going to be nasty going back to 60hz and no g-sync though :(

Had this now since the middle of July and it's still running superbly.
Much prefer this style of monitor to something like the Asus alternative with boy racer styling and lights everywhere :p

A retailer that makes claims about how good their customer service is but starts fobbing customers off is probably worse than a retailer that simply provides poor customer service.

HI bought the Dell S2716DG on Sunday and it was delivered yesterday. Upon setting up I have noticed there is no HDMI response. The monitor detects that there is a HDMI in there as I can change the input from Miniport to HDMI and vice versa but when HDMI is selected it is just a black screen. I run my PC into the monitor using miniport and my XboxOne using HDMI, the XboxOne does not get a picture.

I have plugged the XboxOne into other monitors and it works fine so it is not the HDMI lead or the XboxOne. I have also tried various fixes including a driver update, hard reset, monitor self test and built in diagnostics and all seems fine.

Can anyone please advise? I know this is a huge issue as I have seen many, many threads around the internet but have not seen an actual fix as of yet. Do I have an old revision of this monitor that is known to have this issue?

Is that a older Xbox one with 1.4a only or the newer Xbox S with support for 2.0 for 4K output?

Only ask as the S2716DG has support for 1.4a only far as I know but it might be detecting an xbox one s as HDMI 2.0?

Also does your PC work via HDMI as I take it you have an HDMI socket on your GPU to test that?

I think mine is an excellent screen. Going to keep it, the G SYNC is the best thing ever, project cars was a total wreck for stutter now, its butter smooth.

All my games run amazing through it, at 1440, g sync smooth. Only rocket league had issues, so capped the frames at 143, using fast sync seems to have done the trick.

So nice to not have to use v sync to reduce screen tear. You really do notice the difference in controller response, it makes a big difference IMO. I honestly cannot go back now.

It's the older XboxOne, bought it new a year ago, definitely isn't an "S" version.

I have just managed to check the PC via the HDMI input and it does pick up the PC so it is something to do with the XboxOne...

Any ideas?

I've just ordered one of these and should be getting it tomorrow. Fingers crossed there aren't any issues with it and I get lucky first time round!

Haven't ordered a new graphics card just yet, will be doing that in a week or so, which means I can't try out the wonder that is g-sync. I'll just be pushing my overclocked 290x lightning to it's limits for a week. I'm mostly only playing overwatch and cs:go at the moment so it shouldn't be too much of an ask for it.

I'll report back when it's up and running!

I love mine. It's like getting new eyes!

lol these screens really do make a differnece. Its the smooth stutter free or near on stutter free gaming I'm enjoying. Some games you get the odd hiccup, but comparable to v sync or tearing, well its just in a league of its own.

Ruined my PS4, can't be doing with the constant frame drops, or stutter. Shame, but then these are £500 screens, where as you can get a PS4 and a screen for almost that lol

Mine arrived a short while ago. Got it all plugged in and set up now. No dead pixels, and no light bleed.

Out of the box it looks pretty washed out, wasn't too impressed with it coming off my old LG 21:9 ips, but I've had a play around with some settings and using the icc from TFT Central and it's looking nice now.

I've only tried csgo but it's running sweet at 1440p, and people aren't wrong, 144hz does feel a lot smoother!

Happy camper here.

Anyone had any issues running at 144hz and screen tear/flickering graphics. Running mine with a 1080 and constant issues until dropping it to 120hz and been fine.

I did a quick Google and seems fairly common and hoping next new drivers will resolve it..

Yeah mate its the same issue across the board with the nvidia drivers, if you look on the nvidia drivers thread you will read about many people having this issue.
