*** Nintendo Switch ***

Looks of mixed opinions on this, I think it looks great and I hope it does well! I was hoping Nintendo would perhaps drop the gimmicks and just make a typical console to sit alongside everything else, but this has surprised me and I hope its decent!

But we had the original GTA round about the same time(Which was a beast of a game back then.) and it didn't stop me playing and massively enjoying Zelda:OOT.

I just prefer Nintendo trying something different rather than teraflop chasing like the others. If you want gorgeous looking games at high FPS PC is your only real option anyway... At least until the PS5/Xbone2 come along. I cant see the Scorpio or the 4.5 mastering 4k at high FPS anyway.

teraflop chasing what?

Games like division and witcher are not teraflopping anything and are more immersive and innovative then mario.

Sorry but Mario is dated. nintendo imo need to start making a new franchise.

People dont like witcher 3 or gta etc because of its graphics, they love it because of its gameplay.

Last Guadian is another big hitter and incidently looks like a platform game too! more innovative then mario and trying something different!

This really does look good! I don't want Nintendo going up against Sony/Ms in the POWER race, I have a pc for high res high framerate games. I want Something different from Ninty, and this ticks all the boxes for me. I showed the reveal trailer to my daughter yesterday and the first things she said was wow and can we get one! Say what you want about Mario and Zelda games but they sell consoles. Mario 3d world was played for hours and hours in my house, we loved every minute of it. In my opinion there is more innovation and love put into Mario 3d world then the last 5 Call of duty or fifa games.

Its not different though? you can grab a ipad or android tablet and do the exact same thing.

Sorry but there is no innovation on this system all IMO

Day one purchase for me
I just hope history doesnt repeat itself with the 3rd parties bailing early & i dont have to rebuy my 67 Wii U digital games (if its got any backwards compatabilty)

I really only use my Wii U for Mario Kart online these days as the ps4/xb1 have now taken over in our front room.

Division, innovative how? Witcher isn't it just does things other games have had, but very well.

Last guardian was, when it was announced first time around, years ago.

Exactly, but that appears to be the direction MS are taking. MS want to have the most powerful 4K capable system but at the end of the day a polished **** will still be a ****. Would you rather play the beautiful looking NMS or something that doesn't look as good but has some substance to it?

Your right, they do need to come out with something special or create a new franchise but at the same time it depends what age range they are going for? Do they go for the people that grew up with Mario? Or do they go for the new generation who've never heard of the guy?

The Witcher and GTA are only prettier evolutions of what has already come before. I'll concede that the Witcher is very involving and GTA 4/5 were a definite step up from previous offerings. Especially with GTA5's first person mode. But that's the thing, All Nintendo have to do is get that step up. I guess people want or expect another Wii moment as that changed gaming big time when it came along. It wasn't on par graphically with other consoles of the same era but it was extremely popular none the less.

There could be a big plot twist with this - they could, in theory, release an upgraded dock a year or so down the line with an SCD in it (another tegra). Docked = boost.

Meantime it's clear the launch dock is just going to just largely be there to a) hold the device and b) bypass the battery so the device will run full clocks in the dock. Then out of the dock clocks/res cut back somewhat, to save battery.

MK8/Splatoon will almost certainly be updated versions for the Switch. The video also showed content for these games which is not present in the Wii U version (e.g. King Boo).

I stand corrected :)

Watched a fair few videos, picking the trailer apart this morning.

MK8 (if thats what it is!) not only has king boo, but the sky is different - better clouds etc... and also shows players holding two power ups rather then just the one, though still with a single player, unlike dual power up system in MKDD.

Splatoon, I haven't played, but most of the videos I watched point to it being a different looking version to the Wii U.

Someone also pointed out Take Two Interactive are listed as a partner, not only do TTI own 2K games, they also own Rockstar....make of that what you will.

Finally some educated guesses on the grunt of this thing. All thats officially stated is its using a 'custom' solution from Nvidia and that Nintendo won't be releasing full specs until the new year, waiting for Pascal based perhaps? Also....apparently the Tegra X2 is roughly 80% the power of an Xbox One, more speculation suggests if they remove all the car centric guff (CAN interface?) and utilize the extra space for more GPU cores, driving the chip up to near PS4 performance. So, custom X2?

Unless some major flaw is revealed, I'll be getting a release day console from amazon :)

It was only 5 years ago... oh look a new Zelda! :p

Seriously you shouldn't pay too much attention to the renders. :p

Witcher 3 is a masterpiece. Last Guadian could be as well and there is that new zombie survival game by naught dogs i believe that looks brilliant.

PLenty of handful new franchise/games in the past 5 years whilst nintendo rely JUST on mario and zelda...

Poor imo.

This machine will tank IMO as its going up against the iphone/pixel more so then the xbone/ps4.

I bet you that the mario game that comes out on iphone(is it out yet?) will outsell the switch version of mario..

Casual gamers and kids now play on there phones and tablets with the more serious crowed going for the xbone/ps4.

Nintendo are better off just creating there own smarphone powered by android and create there own play store that downloads exclusive nintendo games.

That would be a better success then this switch nonsense.

And what innovation did Ps4 or Xbox One bring to the table? Look it is clear that you don't like the machine, that is absolutely fine by me, you have your own opinion and good for you.

No interest in this console but saw this on Reddit:

Xbox had Kinect and Playstation has PS VR.

At launch, the PS4 had no VR and Kinect was not an innovation for the Xbox One. It already existed on the Xbox 360 and that was a reaction to the success of the Wii.

/Pedant.

At launch, the Switch has a design and feature not found on any existing console, short of claiming the iPhone can airplay to your Apple TV. Except the iPhone is a phone first and foremost. The Switch is a Console first.

To be honest, £500 or whatever it is for a PS4 VR set (to get all the bits) + £300 for a PS4.....I don't think the Switch will be priced at £800...so it is unfair to even put VR on the table in an argument.
