*** Nintendo Switch ***

Anyone noticed there are no kids in the launch ad?

Not one...

And Skyrim in the demo...you think we might see a GTA/Red Dead on it?

Can't see how they can charge anywhere near £300 for this when a PS4 Pro is up for the same price at some outlets.

If they get it under £200, nearer 150 and they've got a product on their hands.

Even as a 41 year old, if it launches with a new Mario and MK8 I'll probably pick one up for the right price. Nintendo has a magic others cannot recreate.

I dont think it has magic when it comes to games i think it has the nostalgia factor which people buy into like CRAZY. Me included.

Mario kart 8 is probably my most played game of all time. I've been gaming 20+ years and currently have xbone, ps3, ps4, wii, wii u, 3ds and pc so i have choices. I find the more simple games fun. I just dont have time to get stuck in a gears of war or call of duty :-(. Defo looking forward to this switch. I think its going to be at least £250, which would be right to me.

Galaxy 2 for me was about as close to gaming perfection I've ever come. Yes there were elements of nostalgia within it but the game was just sublime gameplay. The music was exceptionally good too.

Yep - I like that they went with a more sophisticated/modern design this time around too. Nintendo consoles are generally aimed at all ages, I'm glad they are pushing that idea and trying to clear up misconceptions about their target audience.

I really doubt it.

Also, the word is that Skyrim is not confirmed on the Switch

It seems like Nintendo will be saving game announcements for the main reveal/press event, they likely asked their third-party partners not to confirm releases just yet.
Bethesda are also about to release Skyrim Remastered, and they don't want to draw attention away from that.

Your link text doesn't quite match what the article actually says:

"The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system."
  • It's not stated these are the "only" functions - clearly not as there are also two USB(?) ports on the side of the dock
  • If the system runs higher clocks when docked, that would not be a function of the dock itself

Nintendo have said there is more to reveal about how the console works - they want to keep the message simple right now and talking about different 'modes' between console and TV would complicate that message.

They had to give some response regarding the dock as they don't wan't WiiU-like confusion. Their PR department will be focused on not giving more details away while keeping things straightforward, hence unspecific terms "main console" and "main functions".

I do have a soft spot for Nintendo as I grew up with the nes, snes, N64 (still the best console + games ever imo) and I will probably get the switch for Zelda alone (then there's Mario, Mario kart etc) but I wonder how long will it be before they go down the same route as Sega and stop making consoles and go software only, which would be a sensible choice I think, yes they do have some innovative ideas but if they just made games for Sony & Microsoft they would reach a much wider audience and have the extra grunt available that the competing consoles offer. They have already brought there brand to the mobile games market which I thought would never happen so maybe that was the first step in that direction?

Having their own platform (hardware) gives Nintendo far more control around how they develop and design their software and many other things - they can play by their own rules.

The Wii U may have failed commercially, but the 3DS, Wii and DS for example were all a big success. Looking to other games console platforms would be a really bad idea for them as a business for many reasons.

Their mobile releases like upcoming Mario Run are developed in collaboration with other companies like DENA, and NIANTIC. One of the main reasons for having their IP's on mobile is to increase brand awareness and ultimately get more people interested in their consoles.

As Nintendo confirmed Switch is not backwards compatible with 3DS or Wii U games. No surprise there. Digital games havent been ruled out though.

Well thats it people! Start stocking up on your Wii U and 3DS games before they become rare and prices shoot up! If going by history.

That would be great tbh, if Rockstar don't bother announcing games for it i think it's safe to say that the machine will be too weak.. and they usually avoid Nintendo consoles :(

Too bad they couldn't release a weaker one and a more powerful one for more money, not likely though. I'm sure it will be a good system, just wish it was powerful enough to get all devs interested. Though i admit we don't know yet exactly how powerful it is.

I can't see why not, rockstar are as good as a confirmed partner. Provided the hardware end holds up, rockstar will want another avenue to milk shark cards.

I don't feel GTA/RDR would be considered at this point, but it's certainly seems possible if the console turns out to be a big success.

Rockstar did release Manhunt 2 on the Wii.

Take2 (publishers of GTA5) are supporting Switch, but that's likely only for the NBA game currently.

So one thing I'm wondering. If the Switch is getting support from third parties then how will game updates/DLC work? We all know games these days are notorious for day one patches, sometimes 5GB or more. Where is this going to be stored? Where will DLC be stored?

The same way it currently works on the 3DS and Wii U, on external storage.

3DS takes SD cards

Wii U will take most forms of USB external storage (supports Hard Drives up to 2TB), i just have a 64GB SD card via USB-SD adapter in the back of mine....

Switch is rumoured to have an SD card slot but specs have not been announced so we don't know any details regarding storage.

It will probably be the same as the 3DS, uses it for storing downloaded content and games unlike the WiiU which pretty much ignores it's SD and requires usb based storage (which sucks because it can only be in raw format, no partitions for PC or anything).
