Eh, screw it. This is bangernomics 101. People expecting yo get a four door sedan which works for this kind of money and it have issues are dreamers. Of course it's going to have issues. Patch it up, drive it in to the ground and then throw it in the bin. This is less money than a good night out in London.

Plenty of guys here buy crap cars for 4-500E and drive them mostly without servicing them and then continue to punt them on for the same price.
They are absolute sheds, but they just never seem to die. Mostly Japanese things though.

However the implication of the thread is that this car is a bargain - meaning it is much cheaper than you'd expect a 2.2 TDCi Ghia X to be.
If the car has just had hundreds spend bringing it up to scratch, why sell it for much less than its worth?
Surely a decent Ghia X TDCI is a 1500 quid car all day long.
Wouldn't be overly bothered by most of those advisories. The place that used to test my Manta used to reel them off, including things like :
temporary indicator repeater lamps fitted to the door mirrors

Well done OP it's a lot of car for the money! Even if you only get 3-4 months out of it it's £400 which is nothing. Altough you could have got a simple more reliable 1.8/2.0 petrol of the same age for £800 with less than 100k on.

I had a 2003 2 litre TDCI that had done 198k miles which I sold in December last year after 9 years of ownership for £340. Maintenance spend was over £1k a year for the 2 years previous. That is all they are worth.

There are only about 5 2.2's in the entire country for under a grand and several of those are closer to 200k.
The rest seem mostly between £1k and £2k depending on condition.
Everything under £500 is either screwed or a 2001... i isn't 'nearly 13' it's actually 'not quite 12'. It's a 2005...

even an Escort for £80 
but it needs some welding.

I'd bet no 12+ year old mk3 diesel Mondeo would sell for a price over £1k. You'd be totally mad to buy one at that price.

Facebook is the best for it. Cars go for £50 on there with MOT. Was tempted to buy a Mitsubishi Shogun on there the other day for £500.
Only problem is that means dealing with the kind of people who use Facebook car selling groups - they make Gumtree look like a haven of honesty and literacy.
Is it I'll check it out. I'd love an old mid 90's 4.0 Jeep Cherokee love the classic square look of them with big comfy leather seats to just waft down the motorway in through the winter but they are 1k-1.5k which is not quite throwaway money and knowing my luck it would break in spectacular fashion
although there's plenty of guys on the PH bangernomics thread that have plenty of successful buys

I really don't see why they're so cheap unless there is something either broken with it as is, or the owner knows is going to break very soon. Sold a 2006 tdci with 150000 on it for £2000 last year. I know that's above market value, but still...
Mondeo diesels have a number of issues as they age that can be very expensive (Drive belt noise, clutch problems and injector issues)
However, if the rest of the car is sound these are not deal breakers, you can still have the potential for very economical motoring as long as you are willing to keep the car for a further 3-5 years.
Sometimes there are bargains. I've seen old Suburus for a couple £100 that looks totally beat up on the outside, but mechanically perfect with not even any advisories.
