I think for the most part, like him or hate him, he made most of his policies pretty clear "We're going to build a wall", "We'll deport the criminals"..

I think people in america likes this certainty and decisiveness, regardless of it it's what they actually want or not.

They (US of A) were voting for one of their own.
But is he an idiot or just acting like one to get the vote?

He's not an idiot at all. He knows the trumpanzees for what they are and told them everything they wanted to hear. In essence, they have the president they deserve.

A billionaire and now the most powerful man in the world. If he is thick, what does that make you and I? Amoebae?

Hes not as great businessman, Hes had what 7 casinos go bust plus many other companies he owns.

When he inherited his money he was the 7th richest man. Now he scraps into the top 500.

If he had just put all his money in a bank it would have performed better than he did with it.

I'm amazed that in 2016 we have people Like Trump even considered.

Is it that surprising, though? Like him or hate him, he represents (just like Brexit) the views of a great number of people who feel disconnected and disillusioned by the decisions of their leaders.

They do say we live in a "post-fact" political World.

Under Obama, America has had 76 months straight of jobs growth.

10 million more people are in employment than when he took office.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jobs_created_during_U.S._presidential_terms

And that happened whilst he did nothing and drank coffee?

i guess we will have to compare that in another 76 months.;) also did the growth happen directly from Obama ? .every politician has some kind of stat like that at the ready.

also the numbers you state are no where near the actual numbers suggested.

also he didnt do that good tbh.if you look at the baffoon who was clinton he did 3 times the GDP growth that obama did. so it just shows people may think trump is a clown but often its them who make the difference.

change can bring better.people just need to be positive.

So you are saying that Trump thinks like an unemployed father with kids who cannot make ends meet?

Under Obama, America has had 76 months straight of jobs growth.

Coming out of the worst recession since the 1930's. And only because of the greatest expansion of government debt in human history.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no Republican or Trump supporter, but the 'recovery' from 2008/9 is an illusion papered over with printed money. Brexit/Trump is part of the ongoing societal nervous breakdown caused by the attempts to fix Great Depression II.

IMO :)

Currency in freefall, stock market in USA in freefall as well?

Seems worse so far.

$ is up compared with a week ago against every major currency bar the £.

E:
similarly, Dow Jones, NASDAQ etc are all up

I guess we're all living in a post-facts world now, aren't we.

why is being a liberal such a bad thing in america?

surely wanting people to be treated equally, not being crappy to sections of the population deemed 'different' should be something civilised people aspire too?

I just cant get my head round how being nasty to certain groups of people makes a better society?

I bet the powers that be at the Guardian are crying into their cornflakes this morning.

Awesome!

stuff like this baffles me?

large swathes of the american electorate would like to make homosexuality illegal and believe the earth was created 6000 years ago...even the new vice president

now these people control the presidency and the senate

how is this beneficial to people??!
