Audi owners in here!

Been tempted a few times. It's minimal gains in terms of power over what I have now, though, and it'd be at least 2k. The noise of a downpipe/proper intake system/full turboback exhaust on the other hand...

Going to stage 2+ is like going from stock to stage 1 :D

You'll only need a HPFP and other bits and bobs really, just decat the main down pipe and add a induction kit if you'd like. I'm running 450hp and 749nm on mine at the moment.

I'm inclined to disagree slightly, in that if you aren't happy with he general characteristics of the car all you're going to do is spend a lot of money to make it go a bit faster in a straight line

On the other hand if all you feel is missing for you is a bit more power and noise it'll probably be money well spent as above

Are my costs out then? Already got the intercooler. It is tempting if I could get it done!

Nice power!

Do you have any issues with prop shaft bolts shredding or is that only a risk on hard launches?

Finally, some real talk in the thread, no talk of diesels :D

Never used them, but if you are going to be near Manchester for the remap, take a look at More-BHP in Crewe. Used them for my A6 TFSI and they were happy to flash my car, take me out on a lengthy test drive, and only then ask me if I wanted to keep the map/checkout.

Friendly bunch.

This is everything I fitted for Stage 2+

034 Motersports carbon intake
Forge race inter cooler
MRC cold air intake
NGK racing plugs (A must as OEM plugs are prone to dropping tips and destroying engines )
Autotech HPFP internals

Been fine so far but I dont do many hard launches, there are upgraded bolts available but I'd rather damage the a prop shaft than destroy the trasnfer box or rear diff  There are a lot of 800hp and even a 1000hp rs that run on stock drive trains with few issues.

Any A4 B9 owners put a dashcam in their car yet? I dont want to start pulling trim away if I can avoid it.. any ideas of the best way to get the charger from the 12v and away from danging around the cabin?

How are the 2007-8 era S3s? Been looking at those recently. Even high mileage ones seem to be in good condition, but you never really know. Wanted an S4 (4.2 v8) but like someone said earlier, the potential for engine problems and crazy repair bills scared me away :D

I have one, overall I'm really pleased with mine. Stock they are far from quick and going Stage 1 is a must (feels like what the car should have been from the factory). Currently mines sitting at 335HP and 450NM torque with a Stage 1 map, full 3" Milltek turboback exhaust and Revo intake. Town MPG hovers around 28/29 and I get around 35 MPG on motorway run, not bad for the power but who cares about MPG anyway :p Planning Stage 2+ next...

In terms of reliability the TFSI manual drive train is pretty strong. I've had zero problems with mine so far, saying that the usual applies (breather pipes etc). There have been a few stories about the high mileage DSG boxes failing (mechatronic failure irrc?) that require dealership work (and dealership costs - thousands!).

Cam follower needs to be changed and checked every 3000 miles ish... (£70 parts and labour) and the rear wiper motor sometimes goes because it fills up with water (pretty easy to replace yourself).

It's on my list of things to work out so will try and take a look the weekend. My current plan is to take power from the reading lights.

Checking the cam follower that much is far too extreme... I changed mine 70k and it was fine. I'm now on 103k and it's still fine. I would say replace the cam follower every 20k if you drive it hard and do track days.

Clutches are weak on the manuals once at stage 1, a replacement will set you back £800/900 for the parts plus a days labour if you don't fancy doing it yourself.

Wheel bearings are a slight issue but not major. Coking of the inlet side of the engine can be bad especially on higher mileage engines. It's not a major issue but if it's really bad it can cause misfires and less power

Mines the facelift model and it has been a reliable car for me but even on track it hasn't hugely excited me. If you want a relatively quick car that is cheap to maintain and reliable the S3 is a good all round car. Just don't expect it to light up your pants they don't feel quick at all especially stock.

Seems extreme. I bought my '07 S3 on 110,000 miles and sold it on 126,000 a year later and never once checked the cam follower. Spent a lot fixing it because I bought it with some issues (wheel bearing, aircon compressor packed up, etc), but other than that nothing broke in the year I had it and I drove it hard. Didn't really use much oil either, considering the horror stories you read regarding the 2.0TFSI.

I don't really miss it. I miss the speed and the grip in *all* conditions but otherwise it's just a fast A3 with hard suspension.

Was meant to write 30,000 :p But I agree with the above 2 posts, its a fast hatchback but not massively exciting to drive. I took mine to Bedford Autodrome a few months back and while it was fun to throw into corners it just didn't feel that exciting - don't let this put you off however as its a very good all round car :)

Is oil consumption an issue on the S3? I hear some people have to use about 1L per 1000 miles in some VAG cars, which is just terrible. Considering my Fiesta ST never looses a drop!

Mines maybe used less than 2 litres in 14000 miles / a year which is nothing. A lot of car manufactures say that 1 litre per 1000 miles is considered normal and is not a caused for concern.
