*** Nintendo Switch ***

I pre ordered i cant wait. I have the xbox and ps4, they are great consoles but they dont offer anything else the social gaming part has gone out the window and its all power and more power thats it.

The switch will offer more then that and are bringing the social gaming part back.

So Zelda digital download takes up over half of the internal storage of the Switch.

How can they do this again? :p Any news on having digital downloads on memory cards or something?

Yeah it supports microSDXC, which in theory could go up as high as 1TB but I've only heard people quoting 200GB.

Lol some of you might buy the ps4 pro or Scorpio that does the same thing from last gen and be amazed from the specs, but question nintendo and its input to the gaming scene. ????

I'm pretty sure social gaming has more to do with how many friends you have not what console/PC you play with. :)

The only premium game so far confirmed for launch, "Zelda" is not what I'd call a social game.

A question for all the pro Switch brigade.

If Nintendo didn't release the Switch and made games for the PS4 instead, would they be worse games. And if so why? (And any other game that is planned for the switch)

The Switch's main unique feature, the mobile usage is also it's biggest problem IMO. Making games that works both on a big screen TV and a small 720p 6.2" screen will required significant extra work and/or compromises in game design.

If Zelda is indeed almost identical to the Wii U version, you'll just paying more so you can play it on the go. Add to that, in portable mode it will possibly be inferior to the Wii U version due to the 720p and under-clocking on an already under-clocked CPU. Plus the game not being 100% designed to played on a 6.2" screen.

Good question and has a simple answer. Look at Sega now compared to the 90's, that's the answer.

After the Dreamcast they said "the hell with this! cant be bothered with hardware anymore" But Sega was given a warning to go software only just before the Saturn and they ignored it. I think it was the CEO of Sega Europe at the time who suggested it and was kicked out the meeting and later left Sega (or was sacked) Nintendo hasn't been given that warning yet.

Sega didn't have as many well known IP's as Nintendo and when Sega releases Sonic games these days it goes unnoticed. That is their own fault to be fair and it be a shame if Nintendo did the same to Mario, Zelda or even Pokemon. Cheapens them out and devalues their IP's to other companies. Abit like if Apple officially released OSX for standard based PC's.

That said, Im soooooooooooooooooooo looking forward to Sonic Mania. After playing the demo last year, the Switch version will be on my list. :)

If and thats a big IF, the Switch does well for 18 months and continues to solider on you can bet Microsoft and Sony will follow up with something similar to steal the limelight.

Well after abit more thought and the initial excitement of a new console has worn off I've cancelled my pre order . I didnt like cancelling it, it was the right thing to do though. The launch line up of Zelda, Bomberman and a mini game package did it for me. Embarassing. Who's going to pay £60 for Zelda if you already have a Wii U like me?!?! Bomberman is more like an app than a game, that game died with the megadrive/snes. When the price drops and some package deals come out the I'll 100% get one. Mario Kart 8 is honestly probably my most played game of all time, its one of the most complete racers out there, you cant help but smile when playing. You very rarely rage while playing . Seeing a re-hash is abit of a slap im the face but i'll still get it being a die hard mario kart fan .

Sorry Nintendo, you can have my money later.

You think Nintendo quality would lessen if they released games on other platforms?

Odd why you would think that.

Because Nintendo would no longer put effort into making their games unique like they do on their own platforms. Would Mario 64 be a remembered for what it was if it was released on the PS1? No because you need an analog stick to play that game and the PlayStation analog controller wasn't around then.

What an odd way of thinking.

Maybe Nintendo would've filled Sony in on what they were doing and Sony would've released the dual shock for that game.

But that's all what ifs and not really a drop in quality.

3rd parties release controllers all the time, that's like saying you can't release a dance game cause Sony don't make a dance pad. If Nintendo had released the Wii Remote for the PS3 and all the same games how would things have been worse?

The launch line up is terrible, yeah Zelda looks amazing but other than that what else is there to play until Mario comes out at Christmas? a re-skinned Mario Kart and Splatoon? The console releases in 2 months and we have seen very little in the way of 3rd party games either, where are the big multiplatform sellers like bf1 cod and Titanfall2. I'm not hating I have owned every Nintendo console made and still do, infact the WiiU is my favourite console ever made even ahead of the PS2. I will be getting the Switch because it looks absolutely amazing, but the launch is awful, Nintendo have shot them selves I the foot, AGAIN

Well in fairness crash bandicoot beat super mario 64 to the punch at the time.
But that is just mainstream, even in the genre it was hardly a forerunner https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_game#The_third_dimension

As for the concecpt of 3D gaming even myamoto wanted to do 3D platform games early (since working with jez san on starfox)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jez_San

Who came to the gaming via the 16 bit era of computing ST/Amiga etc.

But nintendo were not early to the party/genre and as much as I enjoy mario's twitching leg as he drowns in super mario 64 I can't see as ground breaking from any measure.

Sorry if my informed knowledge of gaming seems like rambling or offends you opinion.

Yeah, Crash Bandicoot with its total freedom of backwards and forwards using the D-Pad....

As advised previously player controlled camera was a first and ground breaking since a million other games copied it.

Why do you want another identikit-box doing the same thing as PS4 and Xbox?

Not many people have a Wii U and Mario Kart 8 is amazing, so that releasing in April will be a big deal for lots of folks.

Where the hell did I say that I wanted that??? I am merely pointing out the lack of major 3rd party support with the launch imminent, and not many people have the WiiU for that very reason alone

He obviously has an odd memory of the time, I remember it clearly and even though I have never been a big Nintendo fan I remember being wowed as a kid at the new Mario game when I saw it on Gamesmaster it really was a big thing back then.

Why are you so averse to Nintendo appealing to more people?

Because that's how you and everyone who says why do you want an identical box comes across as.
