Show Us Your Motors!

There's a fairly regular GT86 owners club meet there I think (never attended, just seen the name come up). I think it's quite common for PH meets, too. But I have a feeling that it might be a bit controversial now? As in, new ownership not taking kindly to car meets, etc. I might have dreamt it. If I can find out anything about it, I'll report back.

I think that was sparked by the organiser of the PH South-East gatherings deciding to invite a burger van one month which the pub, understandably, took issue with.

I'll shove up a thread later tonight/tomorrow evening. Probably looking at the 11th Feb as the date which is 3 days after my birthday, so I expect everyone to be nice to me :p (I also expect it to be raining).

Evening chaps, not had time to come on for a while as mega busy.

So, I sold my EP3, it became a money pit and refused to play ball. Those who remember my steering issue, erm... well all CV joints were re-greased and it seemed to work for long enough to get it sold! Odd. Alas, I sold that for £2600 with 3 weeks MOT left and 2 bald tyres. A good result but didn't quite cover my loss! I am mega busy so I couldn't do with a car needing attention all the time as of late, so wanted a really normal boring cheap car I could just get in and go, no major common issues, cheap to run and fix... so I bought the spawn of the devil for £1700. And, I am very happy believe it or not :) New tyres, brakes, clutch, battery, serviced, 10 months MOT etc etc, it's a 1.8 SRi on a 56 plate.

From looking at an A3/A4 to buying an Astra in a matter of weeks... yay?

We've just put our house budget up another 10k though due to one falling through and a developer going bust. So I wanted to keep it cheap for a year.

It's a good car, I am prepared for the hate. It's cost naff all and is genuinely a good car for pottering around town which is pretty much all I do :) I don't drive for fun any more and messing with the Civic was just a mistake which I paid the price for, which has helped me to learn shall we say. I'm not 21 any more.

The comparison to Acme is a bit reversed, I got a good car, messed with it and it went wrong. He just bought a bad car! :D

To keep with the Vauxhall theme, here's my new company car:

Insignia Elite Nav :)

Shouldn't be for too long as I understand my name is against one of the first of the next generation to hit the UK. Might looks something like this:

I dont know colour or spec yet, but I've asked for an Elite Nav 170 automatic.

Drove passed The Woodman today, still closed so that's a no. Shall check out The Jovial Sailor but I'm not a Surrey local so might not head that way for a while, shall see what I can sort.

That Skoda would just not take the hint! Thankfully my V8 kept me amused. I miss my V8 :(

Traffic cones and a tweak to the colour temperature from the looks of it.

Should have popped in to say hi!

Looks good! Certainly better condition than mine.

I test drove a 1.8 but can't remember if it was a vvt or not but they are the sensible choice if you have a house to deal with.

I did consider a 1.6T but not many about. I just wasn't sold on a diesel really, especially 1.9's due to the long list of common issues. I haven't really read anything bad about the engine and box in this one, so I'd rather put 10 quid a week extra fuel in for less hassle. Perfect for pootling around town car for me right now and a lot nicer looking than most of the competition at this price I think :) There were no good Golf's, A3's etc even worth contemplating at £1700 and the Focus's are ugly without an ST kit, didn't want more jap stuff with overpriced parts etc. I do actually really like this thing amusingly. I did think about another 2.0 turbo like my last one... but no point over complicating things, this gets to 30 quickly :D And no M32 box to worry about to boot!

The EP3 was only a money pit because you couldn't resist chucking money at it.

I drove an Astra of that era, it had the Elite trim with heated seats and stuff as well... It was ****ing awful.

Needs a window sticker that says "EvenAcmeWouldn'tBuyOne" ;)

If I had to go back and do it again then it would be the 1.8.

Solid engine, none of the rattly chains of the smaller blocks I believe and no bloody m32 as you say.

Hope you keep it for longer than your usual...
