Overwatch

I don't take the game seriously and to be honest, care little for 'meta strats' or what ever the kiddie lingo is these days. I just like to have fun.

If that's the case I'd stick to quick play, you'll only frustrate your self and your team mates in comp.

Man, really loving Orisa.

Sure she has some counters and is a little squishy, but honestly you feel so powerful (not saying your raw damage is high but just the experience) when you hold down the right trigger and pop off your abilities over and over. If you have a healer backing you up this goes on an on. Even without a healer I can literally stare down a bastion 1v1 and win.

I can predict now when my damage isn't going to be enough to kill someone before they run off so I suck them back with the right click.

Just need to get a little bit better with her in terms of leading my shots on close range characters and maybe I'll think about using her in comp.

I understand the importance of team composition, it's just how anal people get over it and not willing to try anything other that what people like Muselk run etc. Hence why I stated I'm flexible in hero picking as if a healer spot needs to be filled, I'll pick a healer.

Meh, maybe it's the community that ****** me off.

hi i'm a bit lost with discord, not done much since irc days

downloaded app but cant seem to find OcUK

is it a teamspeak or irc type app?

So we are ranked 5 in the world, looking forward to the world cup, was the first Esports i watched last time round and i found it surprisingly watchable.

You should watch some CS:GO if you haven't before (unless you meant first esports as in first OW esports in which case you've probably watched CS before)

It's 10x more entertaining than OW. I actually struggle to watch Overwatch tournaments, I find it incredibly boring. If I could watch 1 players perspective the entire time then maybe I'd enjoy it.

ive watched CS (and played it) since 1.6 but it was a lot slicker and better presented, its the first tournament ive got into watching, usually i would just rather play. have only played a 100hrs or so of CS:GO and the obvious cheating at the low level.
i was at just made me stop.
I like the overview Rather than the fp perspective, probably because OW is new and seeing how a proper team plays is an eye opener, when we all know how CS will play out, as we have all played the maps thousands of times...its still good to see individual excellence but OW is so much more a team game and for me a better spectator sport.

Fair enough. I'm the opposite. I played thousands of hours of TF2 (very very similar to OW) but I couldn't watch tournaments of it. Overview cameras are so dull to me I actually would rather turn it off. Switching perspective between players every 5 seconds bothers me too. I don't play CS and never will because it's not my style - OW and TF2 are much better suited to my playstyle, but for some reason I can't watch TF2 or OW. I can sit there and watch a CS GO major all day though.

OGN overwatch is very fun to watch.. Korean teams are insane and there teamwork/tactics are far above teams from US EU..

Even envyus got **** all over in season 2 even tho they won season 1..

Fully star swearies please - Armageus

I'm undecided about watching the tournaments - sometimes I find them okay, sometimes it's just too fast moving to tell what is going on... A lot of it probably comes down to who is in charge of switching the view around...

It's a shame they can't have the system in CS:GO where you can "spectate" the match from the game client and have direct control over the camera or POV yourself - that way if you're particularly keen to learn a certain playstyle or role you can really focus on that perspective

I would appreciate some tips with this game from a newbie perspective.

Just purchased, had a game against bots and got whupped. Hence I have trepidation trying multiplayer. I could not even identify who were the bad guys... (resigns)

I tried Paladins and to be fair, I really enjoyed it, however my Nephew was raving about OW hence I caved in...

I would describe myself as a solid/casual FPS player. Whilst never topping the leader boards - I tend to hold my own, respect roles etc. To further add context, I tend to play TF2, LF4D, DOD, Arma so rather old school from a FPS perspective.

Therefore OW is a new experience, any newbie tips / advice would be most welcome. :)

The first thing to do then is to get to know the characters and what they can do. Just play each character a game or two. Understand their ults and when to use them (don't rush to use an ult unless you know it can't be countered).

My advice would be to stick to soldier 76 if you have a background in FPS.

Jump into quick play and just have fun. IMO there are too many characters to be learning if you are completely fresh, it's slightly overwhelming. At the most, hope into training and quickly jump between characters for maybe an hour at the most.

I'm not sure if it's enabled by default, but you can set the enemy team to be outlined in red.

Try 6v6 mystery hero's in the arcade section... It will basically spawn you random hero's after each death.. it will be a hard learning curve and maybe confusing at times... The great thing about it is no one really looks at what player is doing what because it is harder to track who is playing what hero..

Also most people playing mystery hero's are either in there for fun or are also trying to learn the basics of some of the hero's.... People will tell you quickplay is a great way to learn hero's without people getting salty... but this is not always true i am afraid..

I often play mystery heros when i just want to play overwatch for fun without the stress of salty players :)

I watched a couple of overwatch tornements online but found it hard to watch because they were streaming the game running at minimum settings, are they all like that?

I'm not sure how much this would help... or at least I'm not sure Blizzard have a problem with locating the offensive language in chat etc. (unless they've stated this and I missed it?)

I expect they probably have a largely automated system, which when an individual player is reported for the same offensive many times in relatively quick succession might eventually escalate into a real person from Blizzard looking into that person, reviewing the games they were reported in and deciding if any action needs to be taken... Having to additionally make their reporting system (which must contain a vast amount of data even just logging reports) additionally store quotations from the chat or references to them seems un-necessary
