**The Official Everything MMA Related Thread**

Don't know if it's just me or the way MMA is going but I'm not as excited by the fights any more. In any event there is usually only 1 or 2 fights I really enjoy, it's rare to get people really going for it as if not losing is the primary concern with the fighters. It's even worse in the women's fights although that may just be due to a lack of knockout power. So many fights going the distance these days (seems like more than used to).

It's not just you, I started watching back in 2006 and i've never felt so uninterested by it. I still watch the events but find myself fast forwarding all the build up, walk ins etc. I even fast forward some fights if they're lay and prey which I would've never done before.

I think one of the main problems is the frequency of events. Back in the day it was one a month so you really got excited for it, now there's virtually an event every week. Another problem is the ground aspect isn't anywhere near as interesting now most fighters ground skills are up to speed. You don't tend to see many interesting submissions, it's either a rear naked choke or the odd arm bar here and there, if at all. When was the last time someone got an Omoplata, or a Triangle?

I have found myself fast forwarding any Womens fight that isn't one of the top fighters. The standard is so far below the men it's not even funny, ultimately it isn't enjoyable to watch.

I've been watching since the early days (UFC 50 ish) and it's definitely going in the wrong direction. There seems to be more punchers with a basic ground game than true technical guys with a half decent stand up. I used to enjoy the dangerous on their back BJJ mad men who couldn't take a punch than the generic guys we have now*

*By generic I mean the style is very similar across the board.

I used to be able to sit down watch the pre-fight VT, the entrances and the announcement without drinking from the holy grail to keep me alive from old age. Seriously, I'm not sure if Bravo used to edit the show but BT Sport show a ridiculous number of adverts between every stage of the build up. Not to mention the disclaimer after EVERY break

Pre-fight VT... break... entrances... break... Bruce Buffer... break (this is the worst).... fight

I almost never watch it live anymore because I value my health and have found that there can be as much as 25 minutes between fights. I appreciate that the US love their ad breaks but it gets stupid when some fights can end in 47 seconds and you've got to sit around watching a recap of a recap of a recap. Again.

Not to mention the way Bruce Buffer has cranked his entrances to 11. It's cringeworthy watching him screaming introductions for the first fight of a pre-show. I could understand for the main event, but when there's a 3rd of the audience.... nah :p

On the subject of pre-show... Shane Burgos with an epic TKO of Charles Rosa. Wish he'd pick his hands up though as I feel he's one punch away from being on the other end of the highlight reel.

I used to watch live also, make an event of it in a sense becuase it was only once a month and did truly feel like an event I'd been waiting for, I'd have pizza, crisps, beers, fizzy drinks etc.

Now I go to bed, set an alarm for 1hr30mins after the even kicks off and watch from there and just fast forward all the crap in between fights.

I think the UFC is in a difficult transition period at the moment. They are trying to aggressively push the sport forward, but I think they are doing it a bit too quickly at the moment. The talent pool is far better than it used to be, but I still don't think there are enough good fighters to fill the amount of events they want to put on. It also doesn't help that several of the biggest stars are out of the sport at the moment. I look at a lot of UFC events now and think 'meh', and that's coming from someone who used to watch the vast majority of events.

for the past ~18 months ive just been watching it on catch up the following day, then fast forward 90% of it and just watch what im interested in

TUF starts this week (in the states, not sure when it's watchable here).

Could be worth a watch with Garbrandt and Dillashaw as the coaches. I would assume Faber will be in Garbrandt's coaching team.

Oh and it also sees the return of this guy :p

Like many of you have said i fast forward through a lot of the fights these days. Something needs to change to make it more exciting. I'll watch TUF, the last one was actually really good up until the last couple of fights.

Looks like Jones Vs Cormier 2 for UFC214.

If Jones can keep himself off the juice.

I hope he can but unfortunately history tells us otherwise! (and not always the juice - he just seems to be consistently making dodgy life decisions!)

I find DC really boring to watch tbh - the LHW division NEEDS Bones back in the mix imo - with Rumble retiring and Bader jumping to Bellator, Gustafsson is pretty much the only legit contender. I mean Manuwa and Shogun at 3 and 4 is the very definition of a shallow talent pool!

"let me bank bro" what a complete cheese head!

Always thought I didn't like dillashaw...

But Garbrandt manages to top him in every unlikeable way. So whiney :p , turning everything into a drama without any wit . Would seem right at home on an episode of Jeremy Kyle or benefits street for me

Im liking the look of TJ’s team more than Cody’s. Apart from Seth I couldn’t see too much danger on Cody’s team apart from maybe Hayder but he’s a bit one dimensional. I think Krause or maybe Jesse Taylor have the best chance to win. Seth is obviously done, so yeah I can’t see his team picking up too many wins.

Hector not making weight is a joke, second chance and missing weight…. fair to say he won’t ever get another shot. Crazy. Plus it’s harsh on Krause, he now has to cut twice to fight once.

As for the coaches….Cody is a major hot head, I can remember a few seasons ago he got in Conor’s face (lol at that, Conor would starch him). He also has some of the worst trash talking going, Cruz schooled him all the way to the fight which was quite amusing when Cody schooled Cruz in the fight. I have no preference over either guy, Cody seems like a bit of a jock whereas TJ is a bit of a snake. Don’t particularly like or dislike either.
