*** Nintendo Switch ***

I just did some checking of other online stores here in PT telling me they have Switches in stock. Phew :)

Either they have stock, or their websites are wrong. I am hoping for the former. :p

At this point i would be repairing myself Kree. Guides online show it as easy enough to do!

Are you confusing the left with the right joy con?

There is no repair for the right joycon. Nintendo have already fixed my left ones and couldn't find a problem with the right one. I have recorded the issue so hopefully that will help.

As an extra kick in the teeth I got taxed on my repair!

Ah....yes I was getting confused... :o

*ehem* carry on...

So much for waiting until splatoon 2 before buying another switch... I went into Game to buy a 3DS they had one neon switch in stock .... so i walked out with a switch instead. When is the next mario kart 8 session then!

I still haven't got MK8D... I'll get it eventually but with ~180h clocked on the WiiU version there's some other games I'd rather play for now.

I've been playing some Thumper on Switch (it's a great port), finished my first run of the normal mode; there's also a + version of each level but I haven't tried them yet. I won't lie it has made me sweat a bit... fantastic game though, brilliantly intense with it's audio/visual presentation, very cool.
I think I prefer playing it in portable mode too with headphones, and the Joycon stick feels real nice with this game.

I'll be sending mine to Nintendo for repair after the arms beta.

eh, so much for having "zero interest" in ARMS :p

Some "leaked" details on the rumoured Mario Rabbids game surfaced, pinch of salt etc, but this seems real:

That ND almost sold it to me. I'll give the test punch a go but I think I'll pre-order it anyway..

It was enough for me to hold off sending my Switch in for repair until after the ARMS beta. That's more than I would have done before, although I'm merely interested in the concept now and not sold on the idea.

I've pre-ordered street fighter, don't think I've played it since the early 90s

Hope it will bring back some fond memories

I am a bit worried that a couple of times playing mario kart, the kart seems to have veered over to the left. It's not done it since mind, and I have tested the calibration and done the "hold the left joycon behind your back trick", and all seems fine.

Mines has done that.

It also done it really bad, then I noticed that gyro controls were somehow on. But it has done it with that off too, I'm sure.

I'm certain that it's just the gyro controls. It's way too easy to turn on.

I've got two sets of joy cons and both play up in the grip as per the left joy con issue when I play on Zelda. However, separately in Mario Kart, they don't cause issues unless the gyro is on. I think if it was playing up like it does with the left joy con issue, you'd totally lose control rather than a veering to the left.

Think I'll end up getting ARMS if I enjoy the beta. Splatoon is already a definite. My son seems really keen on ARMS and I know it'll get played a lot, even if I'm dabbling on a casual basis. Can't buy USF2. Don't think I can bear paying so much for it with what I've spend on 5, let alone use the current pads to play it!

That will be the right joycon you need to test not the left. Both of my right joycons will randomly lock onto a certain position on the anolog stick (for between 0.5 and 2 seconds) or ignore a button press occasionally as they momentarily lose signal with the Switch.

I'm open to the Mario Rabbids RPG, if the game elements stay similar to Mario + Luigi adventures in time RPG it could be a fantastic portable game on the Switch.

or it could be fantastically terrible.

I have 2 pairs of joycons, the left joycon of one of them has the issue - seemed a bit off playing Zelda, confirmed it was funky with the hand behind back test. The other left joy con is ok though, so after the ARMS testing I will likely send it off.

I did notice my right joycon range is somewhat limited too - when I sit at the back of the room it stops responding, though I figure it may also be because the Switch is low down and there is furniture in the way from back there, so I am guessing that is the culprit, I may try putting the Switch on higher ground to see if it works better then.

Here are the results from testing my joycon signal dropping issues after the left joycon repair, I sent this to Nintendo in an email:

I have done some thorough testing and here are my results, documented so they can be repeated when you perform your tests.

Test environment:
- All WiFi in the house is off (routers, mobile phones etc)
- Zero obstructions between the Switch and the joycons. Direct line-of-sight between all devices.
- 2.5-2.75 metres between the Switch and the joycons, with all devices at the same height from the floor.
- Joycons always tested separated without the straps, one in each hand in "split" configuration
- Switch WiFi left enabled but connected to official Ethernet connection plugged into the dock
- Pro Controller had no issues in any of the below scenarios
- Switch in its dock and connected to the TV via HDMI, using only official cables

Arms outstretched with the joycons far apart held in an uncomfortable loose grip (using my finger tips rather than palm):
Right: Rare signal dropping
Left: No issues

Arms outstretched with the joycons far apart held in a tight grip (covering more of the joycon's surface area with my hands):
Right: Occasional signal dropping
Left: No issues

Hands resting on my thighs while maintaining at least partial line-of-sight between all devices:
Right: Regular signal drops, unusable in most games
Left: Rare signal dropping

Sitting in a relaxed position with one hand partially or completely in front of the other (such as would occur when punching in the ARMS game):
Right: Regular signal drops and complete connection loss when behind the left joycon
Left: Occasional signal dropping when behind the right joycon

Games tested:
- Signal dropping is most obvious in Zelda when aiming arrows with the gyro controls. The camera either won't move or will spin on it's own.
- Signal dropping is also obvious in Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the power slides either don't initiate or don't stop, or initiate or stop a few seconds after the R button is pressed or released.
- Signal dropping is also noticed in Shovel Knight where the character will either not jump or will jump 1-2 seconds after I have pressed the button.

This will be a very big problem when playing ARMS as there is no way to avoid having the controllers overlap each other when doing punches and it will require a tight grip.
