ECHR is nothing to do with the EU, you really should know this.

Not quite true - it is basically needed as part of EU membership now. Outside the EU however we could say goodbye to the ECHR too.

Last time I checked the ECJ 'endorsed' the ECtHR. They are however entirely separate bodies.

Edit - in my speed posting I should have added Council of Europe is not the EU.

Hint - Switzerland is not a member of the EU but subscribes to the ECHR.

That was my understanding anyway..

Wouldnt have to, but we were largely responsible for the beginnings of the ECHR... we won't be leaving as that would be rather non-conservative, also being the only non member in Europe (even Russia is a member), would look downright silly. (Should note that Poland Belarus is currently not a member, and i don't know why)
