Is Borderlands 2 still worth playing?

That's for all the replies, due to time etc and when I get to play I'll probably only be playing solo but sounds like that's not too bad though co op is where it's at then?

Any suggestions on how to tackle it? Complete it first then grab the dlc or play the dlc as I go through?

Also what character is the 'best' :D

I did all the DLCs at the end - I'm sure there is a minimum level to play the DLCs if I remember correctly but I could be wrong. I played as the Mechromancer character - being able to call upon your pet robot as a special ability helps get you out of tight spots, particularly if playing solo - this character also really has some really fun and interesting skill trees.

Thanks for suggestions!

Started last night, holds up well considering it's a few years old 2012 if I recall.

Getting a technical issue though :(. Every now and then it stutters badly, sound will skip and maybe the screen will go black for a few seconds. Really odd. May try reinstalling my graphics card drivers and see if that helps. All other games are fine and run as expected :(

There is an issue with PhysX for a lot of people in this game. Here is a link the to steam thread talking about it which includes instructions of how to turn it down - http://steamcommunity.com/app/49520/discussions/0/1291817837617737428/

My only technical issue with BL2 was when going full screen windowed, and alt-tabbing. Game pretty much died / slowed down. As mentioned, some issues with PhysX.

DLC's requires some minimum level. lvl 15 or 30 IIRC, but I'd try 30 or above. Basically, True Vault Hunter Mode, you should end the first playthrough around 25-30. There are some items / abilities that boost XP.

I would play the Tiny Tina DLC after having completed the game. Well, pretty much all of them, but especially that one. The weakest is Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, but it's still pretty cool :) Headhunter packs... meh.

As for characters, people have preferences. Pretty much only played Zer0 Sniper throughout, Sirens are regarded as the best all rounder, gunzerker is fun dual wielding various kinds of weapons, Zer0 as a sniper, or pure melee character (pretty hardcore, and need special builds). Mechromancer can be pretty interesting, Krieg is best played co-op IMO.

Some unique weapons / items are pretty much required for some builds, and can really help out. And some of them are unlocked as DLC rewards. I guess that's kind of the reason why there is some replay value in the game, trying out various builds, characters, farming weapons.

And yeah, at least for me, all the fun was in co-op :) The shared loot system is a real pain though (it's a grab fest). Best play with some friends rather than randoms.

What a load of crock! One of my reasons for building a new PC is to experience Borderlands with the PhysX effects. They are not present on the PS4 version. If they cause that much trouble, I may as well not bother.

you can play the dlc's at any point, but the character levelling is pitched more for a certain level and above, i know i started tiny tina's assault on dragon keep at lv45 and i was getting horrifically owned by most of the enemies with only the tactical use of phaselock to get by, but then moving to some of the other dlc and now it's the other way round so i suspect i've played it in the wrong order.

If you don't have any friends to play with, meh... I'd pass, else I recommend :
...co-op.

Totally disagree, I played hundreds of hours on BL2 without any "friends". Not everyone likes co-op/multiplayer/abuse/cheating etc.. I did a bit at the end alright and for the bosses but mostly solo - one of the best games I've ever played.

OP - it's a brilliant game, and the best Loot game I've played.

Probably the most amazing range of weapons too as there are so many of them.

And it's funny, as in some of the dialogue is actually laugh out loud funny - there's not enough of that these days.

Interesting characters too. A wonderful gameworld that I happily spent hundreds of hours in.

That depends on you, not everyone prefers co-op, I certainly don't.

Pick the character who's abilities most suit your preferred playstyle. And then replay it with all the other charcters because they all have some great lines. Totally different playstyles too. This is an epic game.

Some of it is just cringeworthy like most of Jack's script but my favourite is the Overlook shield mission. :D

Yeah that was hilarious actually. I thought some of Jack's was funny too, he was such a demented pyscho, maybe that's down to personal preference :)

Also loved Claptrap's, after you kill a few guys right at the start:
'Minion, what have you DONE?! These were human beings with lives and families and-- I'm totally kidding. SCREW those guys!'
- He had me worried for a minute :)

I've hit 72 on BL2 and have started doing the OP levels. Played it mostly with 1 other person, and it's been fun. The story is good, the game play imo is fun and at harder levels it's a challenge. I played axton up to about level 60 and ended up getting bored, plus I was being constantly downed, so I used the save editor to try out Maya. Gave myself the same guns shields I had with Axton and played on and I'm glad I did. The game became so much more fun. We've mostly been trying to get better loot to try and do the harder bosses on the higher difficulties.

Started playing through BLTPS the other day, and tbh, the accents annoy the hell outta me - dunno why - the story just doesn't seem that engaging and more often than not I've found myself, and my co-op mate, both asking what we're doing because we've both tuned out and have no idea what's happening

In my solo gameplay, I found Axton is better at bosses and Maya is better at everything else.

Bloodwing was really easy with the turret and I completed it in one go. But with Maya I was down and out about five times before I got lucky.

maya is pretty good when it comes to group kills, if you spec the phase lock right then anyone that survives the onslaught of fire/****/shock/acid/fire is grouped up perfect for a well placed grenade.

but on a solo boss it gets tricky, you really need some good health regen relics/mods/weapons to survive, especially given how the majority of bosses can't be phase locked so you cant use that as you normally would to get some health/shield regen going and just stop them hitting you.

i'm currently trying to get both the ****/acid/shock perk and the multiple phase lock movements perk going together, epic hoard destruction!

wow, **** is censored here, it is of course being referred to in this case as the smelting byproduct.

hah! This thread has reminded me of Incinerator Clayton, laughed my @ss off at that nutjob too:

he knew there was something wrong:
‘When one of our scouts came back from his morning patrol, exactly like he normally did, except this time, he was on fire’

OP – I think you are so lucky to get to play this game for the first time – listen to all the audio diaries as well, some of them are great fun.

I have Borderlands The Pre-Sequel, didn't get to play it either because I didn't really have anyone to play with:( if you guys do add me on Steam tyrellius69

I played a load of 2 and been looking to get the pre-sequal but I have 1 unplayed. Guessing I should just play that over the new one right?

Yeah I think most people enjoyed 1 more than the pre-sequel. I played 2 then 1 then the pre-sequel back to back - over 430 hours and I did give up on the pre-sequel after 80 hours of play but I'm not sure if that is a reflection on the game itself or the fact that I 'ripped the bum' out of playing Borderlands after so many consecutive hours.
