London Bridge Incident

Funny been out shopping and the Asian community partnering around like nothing happened. Happy faces, their kids running around like it's Xmas. Not one ounce of sadness or respect given on the basis of recent events

I saw black people and Chinese smiling too.

Shocking stuff

/sarcasm

Log out please.

I've been at a carnival in our town this afternoon. Not one person in sackcloth and ashes. Disgusting.

Thank god for the posts after the original one, my Asian wife has gone out drinking with friends and eating even though its Ramadan  Oh wait I forgot she's Asian and NOT Muslim with the ignorance in this thread I almost forgot

I've given up with you sorry. If you cant see how supporting governments and states which in turn support terrorism could have an impact on atrocities on our streets then theres no point continuing. If you want a smash the door down and "round em up" solution then you are ignoring one of the sources of the issue.

A statement like "I've given up with you" is a kop out, It's a way out because you haven't got the right answers, You've attempted to draw me into an argument like what many of you seem to be having in this thread and I want no part of it, You make suppositions about me that are completely wrong as well as not being relevant to the statement I originally made,

You attempt to sensationalize your side of an argument with a corrupted statement implied to have come from me.
smash the door down and "round em up".
Personally I'd rather hope for a more civil approach where they use surveillance in the right places and once targets are identified they ring their doorbell and calmly lead them away before they are ready to do something that can't be undone, but what the heck, Smash the doors down and round then up if it makes you feel better, To me that sounds very uncivil but maybe that's just because I've been lucky enough to be born in what was a safe country once.

If you want to debate and disagree about something that's fine but try and keep it both on topic and factual, Yes it is a very complex situation, Yes, no Government is innocent in all this, The innocents are the people who've been dying at the hands of militant terrorists,

You make too many presumptions from not enough evidence, My original comment was about how the UK Government needs to give the security services the power to find, identify and remove the extremists who pose a threat on our streets. That's what we need them to do first, We don't want out teenagers and young adults being killed on the streets so the first order of business needs to be to do something about that not sit here pointing fingers at everyone else

Agreed. You'd need a heavily militarised state to get it done quicker. 8 minutes from 999 call to dead terrorists is fast enough to make me wonder if it was police or SAS being presented as police.

Definitely seems to be more specialist units around (not sure if police/civil or military) as per what I posted in the Manchester thread some very much non-standard equipment on display.

Whilst some of that may or may not help, you're still ignoring the fact that the government play a part in enabling this at source, because its good for the economy.

I presume Sadiq Khan isn't a particularly well travelled man if he believes London is one of the safest cities in the world. It's not even in the top 10 safest cities in the UK.

Its a nonsense statement that you cant argue against, so why are you bothering.

It could literally be the least safe cities on the planet and the statement would still be valid, though extremely stupid.

It shows we aren't in this 'together if you ask me
As said, I was at a carnival this afternoon and none of the white folk there looked at all upset. I assume you think that's an outrage?

Besides, what were you doing out shopping? Disgusting behaviour. You should have been weeping into your soggy cereal that you hadn't been able to finish since you got up at 7 this morning.

He probably has no choice, London tourism is going to go down the toilet at this rate.

After the Manchester attack a lot of armed police were taken off of guarding major public buildings and replaced with armed soldiers. The BBC said at the time it was to free the police up for other duties. It looks like that "freeing up" may have played a part in the spectacular response from the police last night.

Everything is garbage that disagrees with you. (Logically, me showing you are wrong doesn't require you to understand that you're wrong.
You presume that you're the audience of my posts. Given the increasingly slim chance you'll admit to something that isn't garbage, I more post for the benefit of others.)

So here is more "garbage", quoted from "garbage" by "garbage"

OK, read it and nowhere does he say "The left are in bed with radical Islam" so 1/10 for effort, do try harder....to help you out, since you are struggling so much, what you said was"In bed with" which means "secretly helping someone and receiving help from them in return"

A couple of good points he does say though are

Obviously, there is no left collective, on or off the internet

How should the left respond to those Islamist groups—assuming, as I believe, that a critical response is necessary?

<snip>

But we should begin with the ideological war.

In that war, we need first to distinguish between Islamist zealotry and Islam itself. I doubt that we will get any credit for doing that. Writers like Paul Berman and Meredith Tax have made the distinction with great care in everything they have written against Islamism, and their critics have mostly managed not to notice. No one else’s care is likely to be noticed, but the distinction is still important. We should insist particularly on the difference between the writings of zealots like Hassan al-Banna and Sayyid Qutb in Egypt or Maulana Maududi in India and the work of the great rationalist philosophers of the Muslim past and the liberal reformers of more recent times. We should do this in exactly the same way as we would distinguish between the preachers and sermons of the Christian crusades and Scholastic theology.

Funny that, because when we "the left" point out that there is a difference you guys call us apologists.....then you link an article trying to prove your own bigotry that says the same thing!

We should also engage cooperatively with Muslim, and also lapsed Muslim, opponents of zealotry—and give them the support they ask for.

Co-operate with Muslims??? what sort of tree hugging butterfly loving liberal loon are you posting up here? I like him! ;)

Yes but if you know that people will be looking quite sceptically at your community and religion then common sense would say you should show a decorum of respect?
