London Bridge Incident

I've been wondering about that, doesn't shooting someone with a bomb vest on have a chance of detonating it?

Would that be why they were wearing them, thinking the police wouldn't shoot them maybe?

That's the main reason I can think of for wearing a fake bomb vest. Guaranteed death.

I guess it depends on what a bomb is made of as to whether a bullet could detonate it.

Agreed. You'd need a heavily militarised state to get it done quicker. 8 minutes from 999 call to dead terrorists is fast enough to make me wonder if it was police or SAS being presented as police.

There have been armed police around train stations in London for the past few days including London Bridge station which is a few hundred metres from where the incident took place so that might well have helped with speed of response.

Commendable that he's spoken out honestly but is stating that on live TV a good idea? Letting attackers know if they do a similar attack in another city to those 2 they might have a much easier time.

A really tough call but when idiots respond with, the police were there in 8 mins we have no police shortage and the PM lies to the public days before voting, I would make the same call!

These kind of attackers tend to aim for maximum publicity so capital cities or large events especially with international connections or big name stars, etc. will be more attractive to them over less security somewhat.

I get that, but an attack in another city where the body count could be much greater before they're stopped would still attract as much if not more publicity.

A dead man's trigger could also complicate things, and could lead the police to hesitate.

There's one video doing the rounds of some random foreign guy walking along recording people being worked on by paramedics while giving a running commentary, no clue what language he's speaking, might be spanish?

Similar one I alluded to above - not particularly gory but pretty raw - people should probably think carefully before trying to find it as if you are even remotely of a sensitive nature it will probably upset your day.

Better to drop someone and have it go off at the doors than let them get inside.

I seriously think the mods should just go through this and ban everyone that's said in all seriousness something moronically xenophobic and frankly idiotic.
One of the benefits of a relatively free speech environment is it allows the idiots to clearly identify who they are so we all know. :)

I was going to say the same.

Technically there are far softer targets for terrorism, but both of these attacks in London have been made at major landmarks that are known throughout the world. These aren't rational people, they know they are going to die doing these acts and they want everyone to know about it.

Better they exploded outside on the street than if they'd made it into the bar with less between them and people to absorb any shrapnel, etc.

When the media say that 48 people are injured am I right to think that those 48 either sustained a stab wound or were hit by the vehicle? Its astonishing to think that up 48 individuals sustained a stab wound in all of this.

I'm not casting dispersions at the police, but does 50 rounds fired by 8 officers seem excessive to anyone else, when they were taking down 3 men? 3 men armed with knives and not guns?

Did they miss 47 times or did they just riddle them with bullets?

Are you serious? What have you been taking?

Any time someone starts a sentence with "if I was in charge" or similar, it's a cue to be grateful that they're not.

Comes back to the whole "why don't they shoot them in the leg" thing - you might kill someone with 1 bullet or put 15 into them and they are still not entirely incapacitated.

The downgrade was appropriate. The alert level is all about our intelligence picture, and if this wasn't on the intel radar then you can't keep it at critical for any longer than necessary.

The alert level is pure political nonsense and always has been, this attack right after the downgrade just goes to further demonstrate that.
