How would electoral reform help? The parliament would still be hung, and that's the problem.

And you can blame the electorate, they are the ones who deliver the results, not the parties. The problem is voters are dumb and don't think through the consequences of what they do, or whether what they are allegedly voting for is actually deliverable.

Regardless of whether you support labour, the conservatives, or another party, this outcome is bad for the UK and dramatically increases the chances of a bad Brexit deal.

Wow, I was agreeing with you, but i thought you were referring to Brexit, if ever the statement "The problem is voters are dumb and don't think through the consequences of what they do, or whether what they are allegedly voting for is actually deliverable." was spot on it WAS in regards to Brexit. if hadnt of ****** that one up we wouldnt be in this mess now.

Interesting to see the left leaning parties had more votes in total
Conservative - Votes - 13,650,900
Democratic Unionist Party - Votes- 292,316
UKIP - Votes - 593,852
Total - 14,537,068

Labour - Votes - 12,858,652

Scottish National Party - Votes - 977,569
Liberal Democrat - Votes - 2,367,048
Green Party - Votes - 524,604
Total - 16,727,873

I imagine that's been true for years the big difference is this election more of those lefty votes have come to Labour. They have broken the mould of the last 9 elections by coming second with 40% this is 5-10% higher than has traditionally been the Case. The Conservatives got a percentage and total votes that in any other election would have lead to a stonking majority. The really interesting thing is that Labour in second place got such a high vote which is not normally the case (in absolute rather than relative terms). Generally the runner up fails to push much beyond 30% of the vote.

We had a referendum six years ago on changing FPTP - the people voted to keep it. Like it or not it's here to stay.

To a stupid system that even I wasnt in favour of and voted to keep FPTP. Lets have a referendum on a proper system.

Doesn't matter - people voted to keep FPTP. If you wanted change you should have voted for it :)

People dont just want change, Whats the point in voting for something that is worse than we have purely on the basis of change? What people wanted wasnt offered in the referendum,

I'm glad the rest of you guys have picked up on what I was saying about the DUP from the early hours once they were in the running.

The media and public will completely destroy the conservatives if it happens, not to mention massive unrest in NI

ignoring the childish antics for a moment, say the conservatives form a government and they try to move forward, how long will it be until labour start voting against everything the conservatives put forward not on the policies but just because they want to try and force a 2nd election while screwing up the country even more in the process. id expect a fair few voters would get annoyed if all they did was act in a way to try and derail the gov rather than trying to help get the uk get better.

and no im not saying they should support the conservatives on everything, but if theres good bills and they still block them because they can does that show them up for being out to just be in power rather than carry the country forward.

I think in the 2015 election if PR had been used, UKIP would have had something like 28 seats. I know this time they wouldn't but the benefits aren't always positive for PR.
Off the top of my head UKIP had 4m votes last time and 1 MP whereas the SNP had 2m and 50+, not that I'd want UKIP to have more MPs but that's just plain wrong.
Same as the ridiculous 'safe seats' we have, Diane Abbott (for instance) just got returned with a staggering majority so there's really no point in voting for anyone else in her constituency as your vote would be worthless.

On the 7 of MayAlex Salmond accused the Tories of making “vainglorious boasts” about their chances of winning his seat in the General Election, as he warned Ruth Davidson she could be brought “back down to earth with a bump” by the voters.

Oops got that wrong Alec.

i think corbyn would support good policies, however tories are going to offer zero good policies. I still think TM and tories will try and carry on as normall and in a few months realise its untenable and call another election.

I often think it would be nice to have open primaries so at least you can choose the candidate in the safe seat and it becomes easier to unseat a poor MP in a safe seat. But it does have its downsides you can get quite ugly grassroots organisations changing the face of a party very quickly. It's not the change I dislike but the danger associated with the speed.
