Sports Coupe ideas

Thing is if you want a sporty coupe (a proper one, with RWD, bespoke chassis, no diesel nonsense, etc) and you want it cheap and reliable enough to run daily, you can count the options on one hand unless you go back to the 90s. Not many people make cars like that any more :(

Ginetta G40R!

30k on a E92 sounds daft to me now. Not a coupe but i would be thinking i could just get a tidy low miles F10 M5 for 30k instead.

Surely that tells you its own story about depreciation and one of the biggest costs of car ownership.

Plus £30k is a mint to of market e92, where as 30k on M5 sounds like bottom end?

If you are willing to look 2nd hand then I'll add the Lotus Evora to a few other great options already mentioned in this thread. £30k gets you a great 2010/1 NA and £40k gets you a great 2011/2 Supercharged.

Maintenance costs are reasonable as it's Toyota running gear and it's generally reliable with a couple of exceptions (make sure the clutch and air con compressor have been swapped on an early cars). Brilliant fun to drive, a rare sight on the road and currently depreciation proof (mine has actually appreciated £2k in the 4 months I've owned it) which is going to save one of your biggest costs on a car.

Oh, & it's a 2+2 so kids up to 11(ish) years old fit in the back so you get the joy of parking in Parent & Child spaces and laughing as someone is forced to stop mid rant as a child clambers out of the car.

It is really quite eye opening what such nice machinery 25-30k can get you and at the moment were going through a phase of where used cars can actually be more of an asset and make you money over a year or two of ownership, certainly won't depreciate that is for sure.

Big beemers have always depreciated like a lead balloon in water, same as the big Mercs. I wouldnt pay more than £20k for an M3 though, plenty of good ones out there for that money.

£25k is the starting price for F10 M5, quick search and youll find a lot of good examples for under £30k.

£30k cash in my hand for a car and i would buy the F10 M5. £40k cash i would be hunting for a GTR. Gathered the OP doesnt have this though and has £25k?

As Gibbo said. get a 25k personal loan, buy a Cayman for 40k which will be worth 35k in 2 years.

A 32k Nissan would be what 20k in 2 years?

I get to drive some nice cars because I'm not buying new cars every 2 or 3 years. My car fund has stayed more or less the same size for many years

Good point and used car market at the moment is very strong on nicer stuff like GTR's, R8's, M3's, 911's etc.

My problem is I like keeping things and then messing, the M3 and Mustang are absolutely perfect examples of this. :D

You have a £40k budget and have wanted a Mustang since I have known you.

Why the sodding hell are you driving mx5 and Nissan's?

Let me know which cars are not depreciating in the £25-30k bracket that can be (comfortably) used daily, and I'll apply for the bank loan tonight! :)

Theres a few in a lower price bracket which are going up.

Pretty much any 90 Japanese sports car, Lotus Elise S1/S2. All holding their value or going up.

In the higher price brackets it's hard to find something depreciation proof which you can use regularly.

I'm sure I read around here that you can get a Ferrari 360 pretty cheap these days. Why not go for one of those? :p
