**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

How relevant are the tyre ratings on blackcircles - for example is a tyre that has F for fuel economy all that much different from a B? Is 69db road noise all that different from 72db? Just wondering if I should pay any mind to them when looking for new boots.

It's drive by noise anyway, rather than cabin where the person who pays for the tyre sits. Tuning for airborne sound may be odds at minimising structural borne sound you hear in the cabin.

I need to replace the run flats on my X3 (275/40R19 and 245/45R19), my choices seem to be the same PZeros that are on already or Bridgestone Potenzas... Any recommendations between the two? I might go non-run flat but probably be happier with run flats as it's my wife's car and I can't imagine her ever dealing with a puncture.

I had the Excellence RFT's on my 5 series and I found them great. I did 46k in the car (although maybe about 8-10k was on winter tyres), and the one I had left still had around 4-5mm on it (there were other reasons why I had to change the other 3).

Can anyone recommend some good mid-range tyres for a 56 Civic 1.8? Ideally with a reasonable wet rating. I believe they have budgets on at the moment, and in the wet the under-steer is unreal.

Obviously the tyre recommended most for that will be the Uniroyal Rainsport 3's. I don't particularly like them personally, but they seem to be the current Heros choice.

I did like the Vredstein Sessanta's I had on my 335d a few years back. They were excellent in wet and dry, could handle the torque and power of my mapped 335d, and lasted ages (they had 5mm on the back, and 5.5mm on the front after 16k).

Mondeo is in need of new tyres.

Currently have Conti sport 5 on, but find them a bit rubbish in the wet anything i should be looking at? 235/45 R 18.

Primacy 3, Eagle F1 A3. Or are Crossclimate+ worth the extra £40 a corner?

Thanks, I'll check out both. Any reason why you don't like them? They seem to get good reviews.

The latter don't seem to here though: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vredestein/Ultrac-Sessanta.htm

I dislike the soft sidewalls on them mostly. Even with XL tyres they seemed a little "wooly" for my liking. As soon as I changed to different tyres (a set of GT radials of all things that came with the wheels), the car felt much better. These GT's were actually ok too, but this is on a big, slow, family car that doesn't get abused very often. So in my mind, that makes the RS3's even worse. I do have a pair on the back of my Passat though (RS3's), as they came on the car, and were almost new, so won't be changing them. But again, that is a daily beater car, so I really just want to spend the minimum keeping it on the road.

Looks like the Sessanta's weren't well reviewed then. Granted that was about 4 years ago I ran them. Looks like they have been replaced with the Vorti's, which look well reviewed, so may well be worth considering. Unsure on the pricing of them as I haven't been looking really. But look like they are rated up beside the PS4's and F1 AS3's. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vredestein/Ultrac-Vorti.htm

Morning all!

Not been around here for a while, it's unusual having a car without constant problems :)

Anyway, my Mazda3 2.2D is going to need a set of 4 new tyres soon. Bought it a year ago with a pair of nearly new Crossclimates on it so put another pair on. They've been really good, quiet and good wet and dry performance. My work is down some muddy lanes and they worked really well in the winter despite us rarely seeing snow down here. I'm inclined to get another set but my only hesitance is the £130 a corner price tag. Is there anything else I should be looking at for? Something quiet would be good as Mazda soundproofing isn't the best, with good wet grip/aquaplaning resistance. Conti PC6? Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance? Uniroyal RS3? (205/50/17)

Need 2 rears for my 7 series, was going to grab some Dunlop sp sport 01a (275/40/19) @ £167.50 each fitted. Seems like a bit of a bargain. Have them on the front too.

However is there anything out there worth looking at? I saw the vredesstein seem to get good ratings? Can't seem to find a fitted price for them online.

Just ordered 4x Pilot Sport 4S for my Megane.

Not cheap but the current mismatch of tyres is crap and I wanna feel what all the fuss is about.

Why, are you going for some sort of retro theme? You could get a copy of Coldplay X and Y for the CD player too.

And this is why I need the motors forum. Clearly I am making a terrible mistake!

I figured they are a known brand and price seemed keen. They have been replaced, bit I figured they are not likely to spear me off the road at the first opportunity. Or am I wrong?

Mk5 2lt diesel 180

I'd probably get Asy 3s. Seem a reasonable price and get decent reviews.

I've used Kwik Fit for good years in the past cos they had a cashback offer on which saved a lot of money but I think that's on pirelli right now.

Put Michelin PS4s on the Cupra Monday to replace some CS5's which have done very well. Initially I am very impressed with them, great feedback through the wheel, ride really nice over bumps and loads of grip. So far living up to the reviews.

Looking forward to having them fitted on Saturday.

My Megane is rapid but I think sometimes its a bit of a handful on mismatched tyres.
