Seem to be going round in circles in this case, about a month ago after the last court hearing was lost and they were going to withdraw ventilation they had this whole situation of wanting to take Charlie home and GOSH saying that wasn’t possible (or not easily possible anyway with the logistics and resources required).

Then all the charlatans came out of the woodwork to muddy the waters and it all went back to court again. Now that’s over we’re back on wanting to go home again!

At some point the parents need to begin the grieving process, stalling and delaying the inevitable is doing nothing for anyone they won’t feel any different in a week to what they do now. It’s horrible and you wouldn’t wish it on anyone but sadly it must happen.

Maybe a child who could have been saved will die because the hospital was forced to spend money and people's time on these court cases. I would like to force everyone responsible to tell other parents why their child's life is threatened or ended so that a doctor/businessman, some media writers and some politicians could profit from arguing that a baby with no hope of survival can be experimented on with the outside chance of possibly maybe making them die slightly more slowly but probably not even that.

Charlie Gard was doomed to die from the moment of conception. Nothing could have changed that. Maybe genetic engineering in the future might be able to, but nothing now.
 
So, the parents have moved on to the next phase of their PR campaign. Disappointing, but not unexpected. Funny how this is supposed to be all about Charlie, but the parents have managed to make it all about them.

Many people in this thread have raised the question, 'What would you do?' I'd like to say that I'd do the right thing and let my child die, though I've never been in that situation myself. But I do know several people—including my own twin brother—who had children that were born with terminal illnesses.

In every case, the parents accepted the professional opinion of medical experts, and made no attempt to drag out the life of the child with pointless, expensive, and unnecessary procedures that would merely prolong the agony without any benefit whatsoever.

This doesn't change anything.

You still haven't addressed the fact that the doctor offered false hope without having any of the relevant information, and has a financial interest in the drugs he was planning to use. Also, since he was never denied access to Charlie's medical records in the first place, it is grossly misleading to use a phrase like 'finally been allowed access to his medical records.'
 
I have no sympathy for people like this, its a baby, making him suffer just so you can get national/international media attention and make some money. who ever helped these people deserves a punch in the face, they remind me of the McCann's.

even worse they have been wasting the hospitals money and stopping the hospital from help other children they could have helped.

the worst part is other idiots are supporting them and sending death threats the the hospital staff (that would put the off from helping anyone) the same staff that have been helping them.

They should have atleast spoken out against the people sending the threats but instead they only spoke out later to protect themselves when the hospital spoke out for the staff and they started received backlash from the public.
 
This extract from a Guardian Opinion piece (LINK) sums up my attitude to this sorry affair:
It has been depressing to see the circus spring up around this case, reaching from the White House to the Vatican. It is hard not to question why the American neurologist Michio Hirano, who had offered to help Charlie, had not accepted an invitation to see the child for six months before appearing in court earlier this month. The court heard this week that the doctor had admitted to having a “financial interest” in the proposed treatment method. And although I have criticised the NHS, it is loathsome to see this critically ill infant used by American conservatives to attack crucial public provision of healthcare. This is about one sad case, not systemic failure.

It is disappointing that even the Guardian wilfully failed to acknowledge the injustice of the relentless attacks on Great Ormond Street Hospital and the NHS and speak out to support both.

No doubt we'll see them in a years time selling their anniversary stories. Then the next year... and the next. They just can't seem to let this one go.
 
By one, as in this whole farce. Instead of spending months with their child getting emotionally ready for the end, they decided to make it a million times worse and latched onto any tiny hopeless evil money grubbing doctors appeal, and wasted many a day in a court.

To be honest, a week after his funeral I don't think 99.99% of people will care/give it another thought.

They should give the money to the charity running the research in whatever the medical issue is that affected their son.

Glad its coming to an end and agree it now about what they want not their poor lad - let him go in peace. If he knew what was going on I doubt he would care if he was in a train station, as long as his mum and dad where there with him at the end.

Sympathy can make a lot of money, especially if your from a well to do family and can get the media backing.

this will be a measure of their honesty/worth/decency.

I've had nothing but sympathy for them given the truly awful situation they are/were in due the their little lads health.

if at the end of it all they give the money away to research into the condition that took their little boy (or similar) I will salute and applaud them. if however, they hold on to the money under the 'money will never replace Charlie but it will help us deal with the future' then they should be shunned and mocked.
 
Why are they trying to take a child this ill home? He needs to be given the correct care in Hospice, a child that young has no concept of home, he just needs to be comfortable and well looked after. The parents are not intelligent enough to try and make these decisions, evidently.

The lawyers for the parents have been acting pro bono throughout. The others (for GOSH and Charlie's guardian) have been paid but that's fair enough since they haven't been driving this litigation.
