Well if you're comparing them to a pair of blower cards then yeah that's valid, but against a pair of AIB cards it will be less heat.

Thanks for that explanation.. but i always wondered if blowers suck air from outside the case through those air vents in the side panels? but anyways i think the 2 separate cards will have more metal compared to a 2x single card.. so the equilibrium temperatures will be lower

I once ran a couple of air cooled Asus Matrix Platinum 7970s in the same case and the heat produced made all the tubing for the CPU waterloop sag and the reservoir level drop by about 25mm.

Thanks for that info.. given how the vega launch is goin.. i got entranced by those 2.5 slot strix cards.. things could have gotten worse for me 
Still got mine.
When running in 4 way SLI GPU 1 will run at just under 90C, GPU 2 and 3 in the low 80Cs and GPU 4 around 80C.
If I use a single card the temps I get are close to what GPU 3 and 4 run at above.

Single Strix is good, a pair could get a bit toasty.
If you run 2 of the Strix make sure there is a good gap between them with good case air flow.

Won't the miners grab dual cards even faster as it reduces the number of PCI-E slots needed and also reduces the power draw as dual cards tend to use less power than 2 single GPU cards.

This is nothing to do with AMD. Asus are doing this on their own. There is no official Dual card by AMD.
Could you have multiple dual cards in one system or would it be one or two with single cards making up the rest?
Also, I thought the price might put them off. Wouldn't it be a premium price if it's the fastest graphics card?
It won't be 2x the cost.... but will ibv carry a premium.

Back in the days when mGPU was properly supported Dual cards were fantastic.
It was dead easy to pop a couple of HD 5970 or GTX 690s into your case, make sure you had a 1000W PSU and boom instant 4 way Crossfire or SLI. Trying to do the same with 4 single cards is a real pain in the neck.
I suppose it depends on price to performance. We know they are definitely not going to be £550
I personally would avoid a dual card for mining these days due to the agro. Because mining puts a much higher load on cards than gaming it's a lot more heat than normal and can push the coolers beyond what their designers expected to be their limits, back in 2013 I ended up trading a HD7990 for a pair of R290s because I was fed up of cooling it (even at 100% fans it couldn't cool itself under full load, it had to have fans pointing at it too), the blower 290s were much better (and performed better too).
The 295x2 launched at $1500 dollars so it isn't always the case. Also Asus Tax needs to be taken into account
