Is it not made from weirwood and can't Bran warg into anything made of that?
D&D changing things to suit for the series I think. How did he see the tower of joy, swear there were no weirwoods nearby.

It's the reflection of his glove causing it to go dark, if you watch the scene again it only goes black once his glove hits the floor behind it.
I assume you mean shadow, rather than reflection? Anyway, the glove is off to one side. If it was shadow and the sockets were hollow, the whole eye would go dark. But instead we get an iris, which blinks open with animation rather than instantly as it would with a shadow (watch this back on slow motion, you'll see the iris animate open).

The eyes are just a peice of crystal, you can see when his glove is particularly behind it only half the eye turns dark, the fills out when his hand is directly behind the handle
Right? The appearance of the reflection is perfectly time with Jon's hand hitting the ice. This doesnt have a deeper meaning.
Still, it's a lucky shot that resulted in a cool effect.
I assume the material the eye is made of is domed, causing the light to refract inside it. The hand is hardly at the most extreme of angles.
No it's not the shadow. Before Jon emerges the sword is laying there and the eye is all white. As his hand thumps down on the ice it's as if the sword wakes up, the eye blinks open and there's an iris.
Neither a shadow or reflection - the eye is clear or at least semi-transparent so you're seeing Jon's hand/arm through the eye. The (presumably) convex nature of the eyes would distort any image seen through them and could result in only the middle going black.
A quick google image search of this suggest that is all it is as the eyes seem to take the colour of what is behind it.
Please watch the sequence in slow motion, you'll see the eye animate open in a smooth action over the course of several frames. If it were shadow, reflection or refraction it would be instant given how fast light travels.
You're not accounting for focus time on the cameras side. I see what you mean, it does look smooth. But it's undoubtedly the hand imo.
Unless, like Greboth said, this has happened several times without anyone else noticing.
The focus doesn't shift until after the eye has opened.

You mean the smooth action of an object, lets say for argument sake a hand, appearing behind the 'lens' of the eyes and moving closer?I haven't watched it frame by frame but the best I have at work is some slow mo youtube videos which haven't convinced me that we aren't just seeing a warped image of Jon due to the shape of the glass/gem/jewel.
I can't link to images as work but as I said, if you Google other images of it from the show the eyes seem to always be the colour of the background suggesting they are fully or semi transparent.
