New iPads Tomorrow??

Wasn't planning to swap my 9.7" pro, but found a buyer (or she found me:)) so I got a 10.5".

The biggest difference is the size of the screen, I can comfortably use split screen with safari and msg/email app (previously screen was more square so safari was too small for me, which made split screen pointless to me).

To be honest, I was expecting 120hz to make bigger impression (I don't use pencil), but maybe I would notice lack of it more, when going back to 60hz tablet. 9.7 was fast enough and if I didn't have a buyer for it I wouldn't swap it for 120hz (that's me personally)

On 9.7 I had back and front cover from apple, even though it was expensive, the quality was visible and really good.

This time due to availability decided to get Moko case. Don't like hard cases but there is a poor choice of soft back cases. I would rather spend more on case, as the quality I would rate as 4/10 (doubt any other of those cheap brands would be any better).

Alignment is decent though

10.5..........guess that would be quite a big improvement from the ipad2?

What I hate about ipad2 is when I am on a forum, click to go to a thread update and it takes me to the middle of the thread page instead of the post!! Is that ipad2 specific? I tried different browsers but I never get taken back to the post in question.

Which parts have most impressed you?

For me, I really like the split screen use. I only have a 10.5 but I can imagine that being very useful on the 12.5 model. I am not a fan of the new control centre. The scanner works quite well though.

Can I swipe to close yet ? If so I might give it another bash....

Once you have the multitasking window open you can swipe up on an app to close it. If that's what you meant?

The multi-tasking UI is incredible. Swipe up and there are all your apps, plus the dock with your most common/recent apps.

Yep, that came back with Public Beta 2, works great!

Got a cheeky NUS card via HotUKDeals the other day so that just knocked £43 off the 12.9" 256GB spacey grey Pro I just ordered! Managed to get a sealed BNIB Pencil for £75 off eBay as some guy was selling about 20 of them (all w/good feedback confirming they were the real deal) and now I'm just looking to nab a nearly new boxed Smart Keyboard...

Dunno, maybe. Someone I saw had a Paypal Promo (spend x amount get £20 off) so ended up getting one for £55. It arrived today, still sealed and everything so definitely legit. Look for similar deals on eBay I guess, although I'm sure you can get one cheaper barely-used on there too since I get the impression lots of people buy it without considering what stuff they'll do that actually uses it.

Strongly thinking about returning the iPad 10.5 I picked up last week on a whim to compliment my iMac for portability and going for the base 2017 MB M3 or Non Touch 13 MBP to be more productive. I initially wanted a laptop replacement but wishful thinking for coding and content creation.

Had a 12.9 gen 2 for few days. Absolute great piece of kit , screen is lush

Size is not too bad, certainly will get used to it.

Ordered a Pencil too but will wait and see if I actually need the keyboard

Having played with it again might be better to just keep the 10.5 and pair with a used 2013/14 13 Air or MBP. Get the best of both worlds. Would cost same as a Base 2017.

Looks like that I'll be making the upgrade to the 10.5 version pretty soon and passing down the Air 2 to the wife and our daughter will get the wife's Mini 2.

My Air 2 is 64gb so has anyone made the sideways jump to the 10.5 64gb and regretted not going for the 256gb? Can't say I use too many apps these days but doesn't hurt to ask.

Any accessories I need other than a case?

Cheers!

That's why I don't get why people seem to think it should come bundled with the iPad Pros - if you have any artistic leanings or annotate onto PDFs and stuff like I am with the course I'm doing at the moment, it's a wonderful thing... if not then there's not much point having one unless you have some sort of mortal fear of seeing fingerprints on your screen.

Is 32GB in an iPad 2017 enough or should I be looking at the 128GB one?

For me 64gb is the minimum, but then I have a load of games which are a few gb as well as wanting a spare 30-40gb for loading it with films and tv for holidays.

If all you're going to do is browse the net and use only smallish apps then it should be ok. But should you find yourself wanting to use it for more then you may well find 32gb very limiting.
