Accident with cyclist - Seeking advice

This guy couldn't find any red lights to jump, so just ran himself over:

This is the exact type of cyclist that give all the rest the bad name. It's clear your intent so to just fly infront of you like that is just bizaare.

Exactly.

Most cyclists have absolutely no hazard perception whatsoever. Most of them are also not even strong enough to ride a bike properly and AVOID braking AT ALL COSTS.

ALL other road users are able to BRAKE and crossing a hazard safely, but cyclists simply do not care about anything.

Quoted for sheer brilliance.

Why do the idiot statements always come from your keyboard? Is it a special perversion for attention you have because I really cannot believe that in real life you are actually the persona you portray yourself as on these forums.

Seems to be the way many cycle though. Weaving through traffic and pedestrians far to quickly, through stop lights and give way signs, squeezing down the side of lorries/buses, etc. or doing things like the guy in this dashcam footage did. It's why so many get killed every year, they get themselves killed.

Very true.

I like to compare it with motorcyclists, simply ask the question "if that bike had an engine, who would be in the wrong" tends to clear these kinds of debates right up.

The problem is that cycling involves exercise, cycling in traffic also involves significant stress.

It seems to me that the combination of the two will boost both endorphins and adrenaline. High levels of which might result in reckless and foolhardy behavior in people who might otherwise be rather more sensible and cautions.

In a very real sense, a significant number of cyclists are actually quite likely to be "Riding under the influence"

How one might mitigate this, I do not know...

I don't think the OP could have avoided this however carefully he crept forward. The only way to have prevented this would have been if the car didn't move forward at all or the cyclist didn't slam into it. It's really as simple as that.

Definitely the cyclist to blame. If you ride like that on the pavement, then what do you expect to happen? Stay on the road and remember how vulnerable you are.

You might say it was......clearcut.

I'll show myself out.

continuing thread diversion on bad cyclists behaviour.
I/they do not seem aware that for uk, "Based on the time spent travelling, a cyclist is five times more likely to have a fatal accident than a car driver."
so need better training/education(like that for cigarettes?), if not an insurance requirement, too. (what percentage of cycling commuters are insured today?)

You will be safe enough cycling on pavements as long as you stop at junctions where cars arrive :D

Was it a junction though or a dropped kerb. There are no give way lines only zig zags. Its between two gate posts and a sign that says private parking. So may actually look like a driveway.

The sheer number of clueless morons that drive on the roads these days is unbelievable, the same seems to be the case with cyclists. It’s not cyclists or drivers, it’s the people that are the morons. Many cyclists drive as well, do you think these morons are any more considerate drivers? Everyone seems to think their journey is the only one that matters and it doesn’t matter what mode of transport you travel by.
