US: **The Walking Dead Season 8 - Contains Spoilers - No future content to be discussed **

Started as it ended, big pile of poop.

I get Negan is the new big bad but come on it could have all been over within 20 minutes when he was ranting on the overhead gantry as he was out in the open easily able to be shot.

Agree with the above, normally a big defender against the tide but last season was bad and this has me logging off. I'm done with it. Will watch it later if mrs says it turned out awesome, but unlikely.

The speeches and stupid conversations, everyone would have a gun trained on that door for when he stepped out and nothing. I think that was possibly the worst episode yet.

I'm done, enjoy he season, I hope it picks up for those that stick with it.

I really enjoy the show as a hole, and get that it's a "zombie apocalypse show" so we have to suspend our disbelief and use our imagination to enjoy it. But that was a disappointing episode full-stop, never mind a series opener. Negan should have been dead the moment the door on the gantry opened, and I couldn't make my mind up whether the shooting of the windows was supposed to be symbolic or just nonsense. Just all too rushed. The taking down of the sentries one by one could have been an episode on it's own and used to build the tension. Negan's character is far too comic book for my liking. Still hooked though so here's hoping next weeks will be more consistent/believable.

Don't give them ideas, they drag enough things out as it is :p can you imagine they took a sentry out each week for the build up to what we got last night. It would have been an even bigger slap to the face.

Was a meh start to the new season last night. As others have said Negan was out in the open and Rick could have just nailed him there and then. But nope gotta have them big speeches lol.

That Gabriel the preacher is the most useless character in the series. I mean really what was the point of him trying to help the hilltop leader after what he said?? I hope Negan puts Lucille through his bald skull, most annoying idiotic character and wouldn’t miss him if he was killed off.

Ignoring the easy shots on target (I'd know, I'm 1337 at CS:GO) that episode made so little sense. We were just thrust into some sort of plan and not aware of the purpose.

I suspect there's a few episodes of them getting the saviours on the back foot for a change, but not winning any sort of war, just thinning the threat. I hope so, becasue I'm sick of our protagonists being so inept. I wanna see some glory in the vein of Negans introduction.

I suspect Gabriel will be subject to torture so they can find out their plans, so we'd expect him to squeal, but I guess he won't and Dwight might have a change of heart, especially if the walkers had any collateral with any of the "innocents" serving the Saviours.

That was all a bit of a mess though, and nothing what I expected from a 100th episode. Especially given some of the atmospheric and meaningful episodes we've had in the past like in Season 4 and 5. Hopefully the next episode redeems itself.

That's my thoughts too.

Geared myself up for an epic episode only for it not to happen.

Seems like a big chunk of story is missing somewhere, what happened to Negans army? ? Made no sense to me.

That about much sums it up. I'm a fan of the series but considering it was supposed to be a keystone 100th episode it was pretty vague and meandering, it lacked the intensity of some of the slower plot building/character arc episodes. I expected it to be the first spectacular head to head group vs Negan. But the whole conversation with Negan on the gantry was just pointless. Even more so the "old man Rick day dreaming." We've already had a whole season establishing Negan as the insane bad guy, why were they even talking to him and not just rolling as hard as they could? Surely the "innocents" under Negan's control would have just run away instead of fighting???

I still enjoy it, but was bit underwhelmed by the whole episode. Still onwards and upwards I thing what may go on with Eugene, may be interesting, also what lies ahead for Dwight. Likewise it feels like a big section of the story has somehow been skipped, maybe things will become clearer as the season unfolds.

That's was one of the worst episodes for plot holes and crazy decisions by the characters for a long time. Total rubbish but I'll still be watching next week.

I agree pretty much with what everyone has said, disappointing for a 100th episode and full of wtf moments, but my thoughts on a couple of things:

1. Shooting the windows could be lethal for those inside, with so many windows and so much falling glass in what is an open warehouse could cause some serious injuries, however why you wouldn't just shoot all of the leaders of the saviours while they are all stood together having a bit chat chat... would make for a pretty short war I guess

2. As for Rick's visions, the conclusion I came to there isn't that Rick has lost, as I believe this war will rage for a good season, but that he has lost someone close to him. It looked to me as if he was imaging life with Michonne, Carl and Judith... but that won't happen now because 1 of them is dead. So this is a point in the near future, probably as mid season finale. That's my guess anyway.

I still think this season can be a great one. They wanted to level the playing field a bit I think by taking out Negan's base, it was just poorly written and executed unfortunately.

Also, the last scene was so good. Kind of expected it, but hearing him say it, them emerge from the shadows was just great.

Overall a solid premier setting the scene for Neegan's downfall.

I don't think the future scenes shown are real, but that doesn't matter either, they're quite insightful.

What's really, really annoying about a lot of this is it wouldn't take much to fix. Just needs someone, I'm assuming director, to just say, "hang on, that's mental - can we please get the five lieutenants and main bad off that balcony 20 metres from those folk with assault rifles that desperately want to kill them and behind a concrete wall. It'd be literally impossible for 30 or so people at that range to miss ALL of them."

"Also, can we get our heroes bravely attacking something more than glass? That doesn't make much sense." (smell a ruse here where the saviours are doing a Robb Stark and actually attacking elsewhere otherwise it just doesn't make sense)
"Also, can we show this priest at the very least losing his rifle getting into this cabin - cos a normal person would have turned around spraying in his situation and not wait 10 seconds while a bad guy monologues."

I watched the "Talking Dead" show which followed the premier episode of season 8. It was quite interesting. There are more an just few nods to the very first episode and past character arcs. Some are very subtle and unless you were actually working on the show they would probably pass you by.

This little snippet on YouTube shows just how close the first few minutes of episode 1 and season 8 ep 1 are. The ending scene is almost identical to the camera panning away from the tank in episode 1 too,

stones would do the same job and have the added bonus of collateral

the more i think about that episode, it is almost as though an episode was skipped. you know, the one where they plan it..

It just seems stupid to me that in a time when resources are rare that you would waste 2000 bullets shooting windows when just a few bullets could have wiped out Negan and their leadership.

IMO They need to just kill Negan off quickly and get the gang travelling from place to place again struggling to survive the apocalypse, all of this living in a community with abundant supplies and zombies that pose zero threat is boring. Make it a struggle for survival like it should be and introduce a new type of zombie that's more of a challenge than the squishy headed ones currently, the zombies have just become a minor inconvenience for the most part now.

I’ve been a big defender of this show and loved watching it every week with my wife.... but that was ******* dross.

We struggled to even get through it and spent most the time taking the **** out of the titanic sized plot holes.

Can’t even be bothered to run over the plot holes in here, too **** to waste my time on.

Just watched the episode just now. I’m out, done with this **** lol.

Not sure how I’ve watched the past 2 seasons tbf, I suppose I kept faith and hope. Shame really as it could be so great.

Those who feel the same, well, you’re probably not in this thread anymore either. Those who do not, well, enjoy the rest of it I suppose.
