Xbox One X

Blown away with Gears of War 4 and BF2 on this, not played anything else yet apart from Ghost Recon Wildlands which also looked pretty awesome.

Can't wait to play Shadow of War, it's a game i've been holding off playing until I can play it in 4K goodness

Do backwards compatible games like red dead and dark souls benefit from an internal resolution bump like some old games are seeing?

Not yet, but some older games are getting resolution bumps, Halo 3, Mirrors Edge, GoW 3 for example. I would imagine over time more back catalogue games will get to make use of the extra power.

Are these games doing so just by chance or do the devs have to patch them like they do with modern games? Not really sure what the deal is

Yup, about the same. Was a little meh about my ps4 pro, but loving the one x. Had an afternoon of forza 7, halo 5, rise of tomb raider, killer instinct 2, paladins, mirrors edge, titanfall 2 and I've loved what I've seen.
Gears 4 and the battlefront 2 demo tomorrow I think.

Only gripe has been the 100gb downloads on my rubbish infinity broadband.

Just hope there's enough demand to keep developers interested in giving us bigger and better games. There was a tiny point of sale for the Xbox X in my local game store which didn't even have a price or screenshots , let alone any demo units or screens showing off the games.

I've always been Sony and got a pro but you guys are starting to crack me now. But then I know i'll only have it a year or so before PS5 and then it'll be another £500.

I thought the X had some built in stuff to automatically make older games look better?

From what I understand, non-patched games will take advantage of faster loading times, and those titles with dynamic resolution scaling will most likely hit and sit at whatever resolution cap was originally programmed, also all games on the One X use Vsync and 16x Anniso.

What won't happen is that they'll suddenly play at 60fps, 4k, with HDR.

That's where the specific game patches come in. Titles like Gears 3, HALO3, and Mirrors Edge have all been patched to allow 4K resolution, and in some cases HDR as well.

So yes, some 360's will benefit slightly from the additional power, but to make full use they'll need specific patches.

But the bugbear that's making me wait is that the PS5 will undoubtedly be the first console that will output everything at native 4K with no resolution drops.

Yeah but that's 2yrs+ away; might as well enjoy what's available now.

Anyone with a high end PC with a XBX? How you finding it?

It's been pretty good. Big madden fan so that's a selling point for me as you can't get it on PC. Any X enhanced games I've played I'd be pushed to tell the difference to my pc if I'm honest.

I do hope they try to stick to 60fps for shooters and driving games. I'd be happy if they render games at 1440p and upscale to 60fps than 4k at 30fps. 30fps isn't bad aslong as it's welded to 30 and no dips. It's what put me off the XB1 and ps4, a lot of games just didn't run consistently enough but one x hasn't really had any issues.

Yeah I'd much rather have 1080P with all the bells and whistles at a solid 60fps than 4K native at 30fps.

I'm glad Gears and Tomb Raider give you that choice.
