Busted out the summer gloves today as the outside air temp had risen to 14C and I thought "why not?"... wish I hadn't now though as the wind and rain have moved in

Finally bought a set of gerbing XR12's, they don't seem that thickly padded, certainly less than other winter gloves I've tried on. Importantly they have a HUGE cuff which will stop any cold air getting down sleeves.
It was nice to be able to pop in at lunch and try them on to make sure the size is right.
Next week is meant to be 1-2 degrees in the morning so I'll need them!!!

Good choice, 10x better than those muff's you used to bust 
I dislike big cuffs personally and still wear them under my jacket even in sub zero. Not sure why, might try it over my jacket next time. I can see the benefit with the wind but doesn't seem to bother me though.

I've been wearing my gloves over my jacket, simply as I find it easier to get the sleeve small enough to fit inside the cuff and doing it the other way is hassle, especially as I've only been doing training so taking gloves on/off fairly often, it's quicker to slot the cuff over.
Heated gloves seem like a right faff. You need them plugged into the bike right? So whenever you need to get on or off the bike you have to unplug them yeah? Can pretty much guarantee I'd forget and get off the bike with them still attached Or, get on the bike and forget to attach them and wonder why my hands are freezing.

My jacket cuffs are small so only thin gloves will go under them, and as I'm tall with long arms even race gauntlets eventually leave a gap between cuff and glove, the cuffs on the gerbings are mahoosive!!!
To put it into comparison, that's a full race gauntlet (Held racetex GTX) above the XR12!

It's literally one plug, the cable runs along your arms and inside your jacket with a controller pooling out the bottom, I'll probably forget to unplug it once or twice but that tiny amount of faff is worth it to have toasty warm handsHeated gloves seem like a right faff. You know it really doesn't seem that long ago that were were sweltering in 30 degree heat at yours, or sat by the pool at lake Como in 35 degree heat...That's the peak temperature here at the moment

If it's in time for spring and the price conversion is fair then I may end up breaking my no new bike policy rule!

I reckon the 790 could be the peerfect Alps bike. Unless they bring out an R version...

Wouldn't the comparable Triumph be the Speed Triple S? Which is £8200.
If KTM do an R version with at least Bremos and better adjustable suspension then that'd be the one to go against the Street Triple RS.
The specs are far better than the S, and better than the RS in many ways (Torque, Cornering ABS, Auto Blipper, LED lights etc).
One of the advantages of KTM having in-house components such as brakes and suspension is that they can offer a decent spec for a lot less money. We will need to wait and see how good the suspension and brakes are as they are not known products purchased from third parties.
For the price I don't see how you can get more bike for the cash.

No, the S model shouldn't even exist IMO, it has the old dash, abs and 2 riding modes, you don't even get radial brakes!!
The Duke may have non adjustable forks and preload only rear, but it has the TFT dash, full led lights, slipper clutch, up/down QS, IMU with cornering ABS, launch control, wheelie control, 4 riding modes + supermoto mode.
That's a hell of a lot of electronics package on an £8500 bike, the only thing it's missing is cruise control. 1-2 years ago you only saw IMU's on £15k sports bikes.
Let me know how it goes mate. I bought some "mist spray bottles" on eBay that just squirted it out in streams...
Should be here tomorrow although it's looking a little nippy to be out washing the bike, but I'll probably hide in the shed and try it out anyway.
