The ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX/EXTREME Owners Thread

This board is temporary for me, Im eyeing up the Sage X299 but I got word from Asus there will be no 10GBe enabled workstation board for the X299 platform.

Bit of a bad step from Asus imo from someone rocking an X99 E-WS-10g in their main server here! (not the one in my sig - that's got a separate Intel X-550 T2 NIC)

I couldn't understand their reasoning TBH, I did get the entire X299 list and none had 10GBe... its not even planned.

Managed to get my replacement finally stuffed into the case and waiting on CPU now. But in meantime, getting rest build, but quick question in regards to the M.2 heatsink under the plastic shell, is there a thermal pad or anything like that which is supposed to be there, or is it simply that black backing of the plasticchip set heatsink?

isnt she a beauty.

i like the look of the Be Quiet DB 700. It states E-ATX support but looking at it surely the board will cover all the rubber grommets meaning no way to get cables to it.

Bizarre. Anyone got any recommendations for a decent midi tower that takes this board and a 280 AIO?

is it normal for the mobo RGB lighting to be on all the time even when the rig is powered off?

Do you guys know a way to switch this off when the PC is shutdown?

Edit: fixed this by getting the aura software to work.

Seems a fresh install of windows 10 1709 and a lot of the asus software is very buggy.

Also have a problem with the 1gb NIC taking ages to detect its connection state after cold boot or reboot. Not liking the problems im having with this compared to my trusty X99 Sabertooth

Board is in and working great for most the part and looks amazing, though I will say ASUS Aura suck's. On that note, can you do the rainbow mode while setting RGB strips separately? I must be an idiot as setting the rainbow mode which I only want on the boards applies it to the strips which I want in white only, so using my darkside strips for now.

Separately can the Hi Amp Fan header be controlled? For some odd reason says you need to plug in the extension card which makes no sense in AI suit?

Thanks bud.

Out of curiosity, how does it take for people to to get into Window's with this board?. Right now from pressing power button to get into windows from cold boot is taking a minute. Crazy long, compared to my X99 EWS board which took 30-40 secs and z97 platform which takes 15 or so seconds.

Using a 960 Pro as boot drive and same drive and most the parts were used on X99 which was quicker with same parts mostly.

Mine takes seconds.

I’m booting from a m.2 960evo, also have two 950 pros on the m.2 riser and an intel 750 pcie card

Managed to bust the time down somewhat. Think I need to tinker with things though. I imagine it will take longer to boot then norm either way given I have all 8 Dimm slots filled and multiple GPU's needing to be cycled though but seconds to near minute is crazy.

But I think an issue I have noticed is for some reason my operating System reserved files are located on a separate drive to my boot drive. Need to figure out what is going on there as when booting window's it needs to read data from both drives.

school boy error.

only ever have one hard drive plugged in when installing windows. Once installed then connect up other hard drives.

Has been the way since windows 7 and recovery partitions.
