***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Got the 911 GT3 box under the tree. Happy days.
Did you get a chance to start it yet? I started my Porsche yesterday evening while everyone was watching soaps. Loving it so far, got through a fair bit of the first box and the drivetrain is coming together nicely. I'll be sad when its all built, but can't stop going back and doing a bit more.

Got the F40 for Christmas. Looks like loads of detail on it from the box. Hoping it's a good build.

Anyone here got the Caterham? If so what's that like?

I got the F40 for Christmas too, first thing I looked at today was the Caterham as it’s 30% off but I ended up getting the Yellow Submarine for me and Advneture time for youngest.

If you want it buy it NOW as it is officially retired and sold out on Lego.com, I think the other other place you can get it is John Lewis or 2nd hand.

Thanks for the tip pal, ill get on and order it. I was a fan of it during the concept and voted for it to be a product so I should have got it ages ago really.

No not yet. Holding off until the weekend. Its kind of our new thing for new years eve - we chill out building lego and drinking home made baileys. Hint - home made baileys is easy to make and you can put extra whiskey in it to make it a bit more punchy! :p

I'm really excited to start it. Haven't even opened the box yet! Cant wait :)

I picked one up in John Lewis today, they priced matched Lego (on the shelf for £75). If you still want it. They had a fair few in Cambridge still.

I've made a start on the Lepin koenigsegg one kit which is a fairly complex/fiddly MOC model making it a nice change from the usual technic builds. Just wish Lego themselves could start making more of these types of kits.

And on that note is seems Lepin/Xingbao have a few more MOC kits out:-

Prices are nearing Lego was well... But then, they do seem to also include power functions, which no doubt ups the price. I'm considering the Lepin koenigsegg as its a lot cheaper then bricklink the set.

My word are they churning out some Star Wars rubbish, another cantina but even worse and a sandspeeder.

I have to admit, the star wars sets apart from UCS sets just aren't for me right now, the x wing sets and the y wing sets were fantastic, the BB8 was also superb, but the newly announced sets, I'm not that impressed. I do like the newer build able figure sets.

I am impressed with some of the newer H1 Lego Technic sets.

I wish Lego would bring out some more car models with the same complexity of the Porsche. I am not even finished and starting to look at other sets :D, but i kind of want something that will look good on display with the Porsche, rather than the construction vehicles etc. The only other car I have seen is the F40, but that doesn't look anywhere near as complex.

Plus I am really not a fan of Starwars, which further limits my options :(.

IMO the Ferrari is just as good of a model as the Porsche but for different reasons. No its not as big or complex but it is a great model in its own right. The other cars in that style (2x VW's, Mini, Caterham, London Bus) are also all great.

I don't know if there is the consumer demand for another Porsche type set for awhile, they missed the mark with the price, most people on here got it for £80-£100 off RRP. It was at best a £200 set. It was only the die hard fans that paid full whack.

After 22 hours I have finally finished the UCS MF.
3 missing parts and 1 panel that was too big (found a spare). Really enjoyed the build despite that fact that I finger and thumb that I can now attach Lego to.

What are peoples thoughts on the BWE these days?

I recently had to scale down the amount of stuff I display and decided to take a few of the sets I had that weren't great display pieces and mix them up in a box so that I had some Lego to hand that I could just build with when the mood takes me.

The BWE model itself doesn't really interest me but I'm considering picking one up purely to build once and then add it to this box of Lego as it seems like a decent amount of Technic for the money.

If you can get it for a good price then it's a good kit. As you say plenty of pieces and both the A and B models are fairly impressive. Huge though so not one for sitting on a shelf, which reminds me I need to build a display table for that and a few others.

Never heard of Lepin before reading this thread, so did a bit of research and have now ordered the super star destroyer. Would love the real Lego one but my wife would do get nut if I spent the kind of money they go for on eBay on a Lego set!

They've literally just bought out a Rally Car for technics.

It's not gonna be anything like the same level as the Porsche but might not be a bad set.

Most of the way through the Ecto 1 build and it's been great so far. Once done I've got the Ferrari F40 to do which looks superb. One of my fav models is the Mega Bloks Need For Speed Porsche GT3. Looks great when built. Wish they did some more. Anyone done the Nissan GTR from the same series?

Thats where Lepin fills the gap IMO - retired Lego sets are super expensive - even if you try to bricklink them. Star Wars UCS sets are the worse, and I've had to purchase a few Lepin sets to fill in the gaps. I usually mix them with a bit of Genuine Lego as well - as Lepin are fine, but sometimes the fit isn't quite as good as Lego. Lego Technic Parts are fairly cheap on Bricklink, and are way better then Lepin. I have the Lepin Star Wars shuttle, and I'm having to replace all the gears as the Lepin ones have way too much friction and the wings in the model simply do not open and close very smooth at all.

I've read from the reviews that the Lepin sets tend to have a couple of parts missing / malformed. Where's the best place to get replacements? Bricklink looks good for the set specific ones, but if I need three flat 10x2 grey panels for example, is eBay the best source? I can raid a few boxes, but have very little grey stuff and the super star destroyer is pretty much all grey!
