This 'sugar tax' crap is doing my head in!

We are all having to suffer because some people don't know when they have had to much...

Also the stuff they stick in to substitute sugar is just as bad as sugar most of the time.

I only really drink and ask for pepsi max anyway. If they dont have it I would prefer a diet over the way the full sugar versions make your mouth/teeth feel.

Ginger pepsi max is epoc
Be careful! Bought a Pepsi Max other week, got a horrible shock when I tasted it.

Ginger? Who the hell would make such an abomination!? On one I bought, the "Ginger" part was nowhere near as visible... :(

this stuff is the liquor of the gods

Fantastic stuff, they need to start seling it
In 2ltr rather than the stupid 1.5l size for more money

coke are trying to side step it, re-designing diet-coke tin too (like those anonymous cigarette packages)

Coca-Cola is bringing three new drinks to the U.K. ahead of a £520 million ($735 million) tax on sugary beverages that will start in April.

The company will launch non-dairy drinks brand AdeZ in May and cold drink Honest Coffee in September. Fuze Tea, its iced tea drink, is already available.

Coke wants to double sales of still drinks by in the U.K. by 2020 and said that 50 percent of revenue growth will come from innovation or new products by the same year, according to an emailed statement.

Fuze Tea is available in the U.K. in two variants in 400ml bottles, and each contain 4.3 grams of sugar per 100ml. The drink will not be subject to the forthcoming sugar levy, which will add 24 pence per liter to drinks with 8 grams per 100 milliliters and 18 pence per liter for those with five grams of sugar per 100 milliliters.

It won’t make any difference, the people that have no will power and have no intention of looking after themselves, or those with deeper issues, will continue to buy it. For the rest of us it becomes a slightly more expensive treat.

Put all the good stuff behind doors that obese folks can't get through, it's just a cash grab and won't deal with the problem of peoples greed and lack of will power and is folks that like a treat now and then suffer because of it.

Got any evidence for your latter claim?
No,becuase itsamyrh. More diet drinks have sweetners with zero insulin response. There is some evidence they change your gut microbe. And of course people use force feeding rats huge amounts of aspartame as evidence for cancer. Despite no evidence in humans and being one of the most researched compounds in history.
So they might not be brilliant as gut microbes affects a lot but to say it's just as bad as sugar is a lie.

If it’s going to cost you anything worth worrying about then you may have a problem :p.
But isn't that the point? If it's such a negligible amount it isn't going to stop people buying it, it will just stop companies making/selling it which isn't fair on your average Joe who is able to maintain a balanced diet without dictatorship. I want my sugary drinks occasionally dammit!

I didn't know about this. But it is a good move imo..... sucks for you obviously but sugary drinks are terrible.

I only ever have them very occasionally as a treat.
I have no fillings and have a nice full sugar lemonade or some other type of drink at least once every 2 days, I don't see why I should be taxed for it. I do make sure it isn't ridiculously high in sugar like Monster, Coke etc though, under 20g for 330ml is normally my limit. It's just another way to get money because Mr Fatty with his rotten teeth will still drink too much...

It’s about nudging people into moving away from sugary drinks.

Although I think some research has shown that when people shift from sugar loaded drinks to the diet alternative they just get the calories elsewhere (can’t remember where I read that... probably research funded by PepsiCo :p).
It's not like there are even that many calories in it. I've got a 2l bottle of Aldi cola here (was only using it for mixers as it obviously doesn't taste like the real thing!) and there's 50 cals per 250ml. So the issue really is people who drink 2l a day not the amount of sugar/calories. And if you're the type of person to drink 2l of coke a day I imagine that's only the tip of the ice berg. I on the other hand burnt some 2000 cals on my bike today so if I want to drink 2l of coke I will :D

True that is one way of looking at it.

Unfortunately human beings have to constantly be saved from themselves.

It'd be good if we could only tax the individuals who can't control themselves and not the rest of us.

I'd prefer that it becomes law to not have over 20g of sugar in a 330ml can, I think that would be the best option, that won't happen though because it would reduce the sale of sugar and in turn make less money via taxation.

Ask them what version they stock prior to ordering?

I do that on the occasions that I have tonic with my vodka, anything other than Schweppes doesn’t taste right.
I really don’t like the draught tonic served via the mixer gun in bars, it doesn’t taste good to me.
Strangely enough, years ago I would swerve slimline tonic, as it seemed to make the vodka taste somehow sweet, (go figure).
When I went up to 82 kg, I switched to slimline tonic, and am now holding steady at 71 kg, although a daily circuit of Southwark Park no doubt helps.

This.

Once the establishment has completely banned (illegalised) tobacco, they'll crack down on social drinkers and ban alcohol too.
Much as banning alcohol would make sense from a health and crime perspective, I don't believe we will see this in our lifetime. Besides, you can make alcohol yourself without much in the way of equipment or brains. It's considerably harder to make tobacco, so the two aren't really comparable.
