Aye had that clarified for me earlier - my only concern is buying a car that costs a lot to put in a condition that porsche will allow a warranty on it but...potentially facing a saving of 5k which adds some float to that.

These are well built cars, you really should not be facing anything on a 981 outside of the cost of the 111 point check if you buy well. Also, make the 111 point check part of the deal, make it the sellers cost in that way you get a car, get Porsche to inspect it and get your backside covered. When I sold my GT3 the guy who bought it spent 300 quid (I think) getting Fearnsport to go over it with a fine tooth comb and I would have done the same. I've only speed read the thread so sorry if I am covering old ground.

Not at all, it's good advice and appreciated. So are you saying if anything is flagged in the check I put that back on the dealer?
From what I've read it's normally just discs and tyres that tend to get flagged. Oh...and the illustrious exhaust bolts!
 
As far as I can tell every Porsche that is bought by anyone who has a vague interest in cars is subject to a pre purchase inspection. It’s very common and I would factor that into the cost of buying any car that isn’t provided with a Porsche warranty.
 
You may find a private sale 981 that has the approved warranty attached to the car - these are transferable so as long as it's got more than 3 months left you'll be fine. If the car doesn't have any warranty attached but you want the car agree to buy it under the condition that the seller puts it through the 111 check and then attaches a the warranty (even if you end up paying them for this). As it's the seller doing it this can be done instantly and you then have the 12/24 month warranty, if you buy the car and then try to attach the warranty you have to wait 3 months I believe.

My OPC always moaned about tyres at every 111 point check / MOT. "These are under 3mm Sir, we really can't warranty it without replacing them".... until I pointed out they'd fitted the tyres 3000 miles ago and they had 6mm of tread.
 
My friend has just gone to renew a lapsed warranty on his 991 3 months after buying and the same dealer have now spotted a damaged crossmember (looks like a rising bollard) despite missing it on the 111 point check. So is paying about £750 to get it replaced before they will give warranty.

Exactly, make the 111 point check and attachment of a warranty part of the deal. Even pay the seller the £800 or whatever it costs to get it all done so that you get a car covered by warranty. Once you are in the warranty you are laughing as each future 111 point is covered by the warranty so anything they find will be free.
 
Though not as dynamic or as good handling wise as a 981 Cayman/Boxster remember for 35k area there are plenty of Jaguar F-Type V6S for sale and most from Jaguar direct so come with a 2yr warranty and MOT cover.

Drive a V6S convertible/coupe, the 981 has better handling but the Jag does feel a bit more special and in full on dynamic mode is a funny and silly car, but one you start to love. But plenty of V6S convertible and coupes for sales 30-35k with 2yr warranty. Simple technology, quite cheap to run and quite cheap servicing.

If your really brave there are a handful of V8S convertibles around 35k, though these are now quite old and high milers, you'll still get a 2yr warranty. But if handling is more favourable to you I'd say definitely avoid, they are more of a hot rod that just love to blow of their tyres at every attempt. :D

Come on guys, he is buying this car as a daily driver and as such as amazing as some TVR's are to drive, they really are not a great daily driver for many reasons.
 
Lol gibbo is right on that one. I'd actually looked at the f-type and you're right, for 35k there are plenty to choose from. The v6s should be all the power I need and it probably is a good idea to try one out. I'll book a test drive this weekend methinks.

Also getting some nibbles on mine although the offers are way below asking atm as they're mostly from traders. Working on striking a deal with a local specialist car garage to have them sell it on my behalf for a small slice of the sale price.
 
That has to be the worst £32k car ever. Absolutely hilarious - £32k for a 2 year old Volvo V60?! You can get a brand new 340i for that with the same performance!
 
A TVR is perfectly fine for a daily drive, I know someone who used to do it lol

(You just need to be a semi-pro mechanic and carry a toolkit with you) :p
