Anti-semitic is a bit of a push, no?

I'm living in hope that one day an apology speech will consist of:

"I'd like to address the recent unrest that has arisen following my previous support for a mural now deemed anti-Semitic. It's a ******* picture, get over it. Thank you all for coming."
Hopefully his apology speech will also be his resignation speech. The quicker we get rid of Communist loving, Jew hating Corbyn the better!

I've seen no evidence that he's either a communist lover or a Jew hater. I've often been proved wrong though so if you've got a video of him punching Ariel Sharon whilst getting a reach around from Trotsky I'm happy to concede.

I think he is a fierce defender of free speach, which is a good thing.

Defending free speech doesn't mean blindly agreeing with it. I don't see the relevance of him being a defender of free speech with regards to my comment that he was just being stupid rather than anti Semitic. I'll note that he's not tried to defend his actions but rather has apologised for them. Ergo I'll put it down as him screwing up rather than him being an antisemite.

I don't think there is any excessive amount of antisemitism specifically in Labour than there is any any other party - People disagree with Israeli oppression, they don't hate Jewish people.

Depends how you define excessive, they do have a problem with it though. You can criticise Israel without being anti semetic, that isn't the issue.

this is my point exactly! the people who are looking for this stuff are the real racists. I looked at the image and didnt see anything to do with Jews. Therefore clearly the stereotype has no meaning for me. a.n other looked at it and saw jews. who is the anti semetic?

It has to be seen in the context of history before it becomes offensive. Apparently you don't know much history, so it as no meaning to you. That doesn't make you 'forward thinking as you're trying to imply, it just makes you ignorant.

I wouldn't vote for Corbyn if you paid me, but there's nothing racist or anti-Semitic about that picture, I was expecting some over the top stereotypical Jewish men like 1930's Nazi propaganda and it's nothing of the sort. They're just old white men, one looks like the bloke from Monopoly and another looks like a caricature of God.

What has history got to do with how someone appears to you?

A large part of the basis for his anti-semitism is his staunch support for Palestine. It is a facile inference, imo, and I'm not a labour man. Confirmation bias is strong here.

I know that Jews have been persecuted since biblical times. It has no meaning not because of what happened in the past but because it is irrelevant to my life now. Racism based on passing down of beliefs is no different to the passing down of political beliefs. I make my own mind up based on the here and now.

Are Jews persecuted in this country now? I dont think they are. Or its a London bubble thing that no other part of the country gets to hear about.

Regardless of what was intended in this incident, there are other examples of anti-Semitism within the labour party. Tweets by Naz Shah and Vicki Kirby are two such examples - plus there's Kev Livingstone...

Naz Shah talked about relocation of Isrealli people into the US I believe although I dont know the full details.

Its hardly deliberate hatrid of Jews. She isnt saying she wants them out of this country, or doesnt want to be near them or around them. The intention behind it was to remove the trigger points for conflict in the region.

Forced relocation is clearly an inappropriate solution but it is not a racist solution in and of itself unless driven by internal hatred of the people, which it wasnt. Isreal was initially created as a solution to the Jews being a homeless race wasnt it, after WW2?

It's probably worth pointing out that Naz Shah was suspended from the Labour party after those remarks, which were mostly anti-Israel to be fair, but she was then re-elected with a bigger majority than before. So essentially she's just representing the views of her constituents. What do you do when a large proportion of a community hold those types of views? Brush it under the carpet and stick your fingers in your ears seems to be the prevailing solution.

Well 'communist' may be problematic as 'communism' is a eutopian ideal (and the supposed end goal of socialism) so there hasn't been a communist state in reality (just thoose that called themselves communist)

But he's certainly a Socialist despite his recent claims not to be.

And he's all for Marxist style appropriation of private property without compensation...... When the circumstances do not require it but it suits his goals.....

He's also has previous for quoting leaders of a self declared communist regimes in an attempt to inspire fortitude in the party

I'm sure people would not miss the nazi references if someone like Teresa May started saying that work will set you free (Arbeit macht frei)

And he's a fan of Marx's views on the ownership of the means of production and distribution...

Can't see a tory commenting in a similar fashion Re facists getting the trains to (allegedly) run on time to be viewed by in the same light...

So in my mind the 'communist' tag isn't completely without merit....

As to whether he's an anti semite.... Probably not in a big way other than i suspect that he thinks that prominent Jews are centrally involved in the capitalist system he hopes to dismantle.

Certainly a lot of evidence he has a proclivity towards the radical left and multiple times has expressed admiration for people or regimes that are deeply rooted in communism.

Can't say I've seen much evidence which would place his position on the Jews/Semites.
