Woman guilty of 'racist' Snap Dogg rap lyric Instagram post

No no. The whole point of racial equality is all races are equal. This means all laws and judgements apply equally to all races. Either a word is offensive or it is not. It is not offensive just because someone of a different race says it.

I know where Sonny is coming from black people have taken ownership of the word, it's not as simple as the C word being offensive.

But the point of this case is that a black police officer thinks the word is offensive whoever says it, I think this would require a blanket approach that if a black person posted the same lyrics on social media they would get screwed as well.

Either way, it's still very stupid.

Yes it is.

The amount of white kids who don't seem to understand they aren't allowed to use that word is obscene.

I'd like to see them use that word outside of their comfort zone in somewhere like brooklyn. But just because they are in the UK surrounded by other white kids they seem to think it's okay as it's rap.

Only coloured people are allowed to use it. White people no. Simples.
Whilst your on your high horse can you stop referring to black people as "coloured" as apparently it's an insult.....................;)

Exactly. If there is a ruling it applies equally to all. Irrespective of their race.

I accept the word is offensive, I'd never dream of using it because of the offence it causes, even in a completely none derogatory manner. However that should apply to everyone.

i think the main issue is generational gaps here. all the kids today are saying it. they like the music and think it's okay as they say it. however they should know since they are white they shouldn't be saying it.

i can see how if you were to take a 16 year old a 40 year old and a 70 year old they would all have completely different views on the use of the word.

with only the 16 year old thinking it's acceptable to use it if they are white.

But that's just it. It is (unfortunately) a very mainstream word because of MOBO. You can't have a mainstream word that is only usable by a portion of the population - confusion results, someone unintended gets offended.

it's similar to the caste system tbh. it's okay if they say it about themselves, etc but offensive if a different caste calls them it unless you are talking about the higher castes.

there is no confusion there with that one unless you are really thick.

The whole caste system is just racist crap anyway, should be confined to the history books.

But that has nothing to do with the ruling, the race of the person using it wasn't even considered AFAIK and the police officer investigating the 'crime' is under them impression it is offensive regardless.

well a lot of police are morons. as many bad as there are good.

all you need to do to become one is pass 2 basic tests which a smart 12 year old could and run for 12 minutes at a decent pace.

IMO the fact future police will need to have degrees should limit the number of morons who get in. if that was passed that is i know there is plans for it.

Why do I strongly suspect that this is suffering from the usual poor level of court reporting? Almost every time the media reports "OMG! Person punished for trivial social media offence!" it turns out that there's actually a whole load of other stuff that resulted in the conviction.

We live in a time of the thought police and we just sleep walked the **** into it. The funniest part is that most people STILL don't see it and will try to defend this.

This is what our fathers and grand father warned us about and we just let it happen
