Boris and the burka

It certainly does. But you will find that with most religious texts. And interpretation leads to stupidity.
yeah, like the burka

You do understand this is a thread about Boris OPPOSING a Burka ban right?

The criticism/aggression aimed at him is by people who have only read/heard edited/altered versions of what he said from Facebook/Alt news sources.

Don't you worry about it. If he becomes PM he will ban the sand mask.

Although I do find it funny that the ladies wearing the sand mask are the ones that protest a lot?

What happens in situations that require facial ID if someone is wearing a burka / head covering?

I'd guess at an airport that they would be go to a private room or something but what about more day to day stuff like buying an age verified item?

Must make life so much harder, I can't fathom why anyone would choose it but then I'm not religious so I guess I wouldn't understand.

Anyway, Boris is being Boris. He's like Trump lite. :p

The majority of Britons think describing women in burkas as looking like "letter boxes" and "bank robbers" is not racist - but are split as to whether Boris Johnson should apologise for doing so, according to a new Sky Data poll.

Six in 10 - 60% - say it is not racist to compare Muslim women wearing burkas to bank robbers and letter boxes, as Mr Johnson did in an opinion column earlier this week, while 33% think it is.

However, people are split as to whether the former foreign secretary should apologise for his remarks - 45% think he should do so, 48% think he should not.

I think he's played a blinder tbh... most of the British public are in support of his stance. He should refuse to apologise and keep the story going for a few more days, by the weekend all the Sunday papers will be full of opinion pieces and letters to the editor either in support of or criticising Boris... but overall the public in general is in his favour and conservative voters no doubt even more so.

It's strange that this one is nearing the straw that broke the camel's back. He said and done all sorts in the past. His handling of the British woman been held in Iran for 'spying' should have ended his political life alone.

There's a lot of pressure in Muslim families to keep to tradition, this is why you see things like people agreeing to forced marriages, they basically just want to keep their parents happy and don't want to disappoint them. This probably explains Women covering their face/head, it's how they've been brought up and they don't want to upset their family or even husbands family. Most of us in the West wouldn't think twice about dating someone our parents didn't like or wearing something they didn't approve of. We just have different cultures.

So we have had successive governments where all we got was spin, political correctness and bull frankly. Boris, speaks his mind and pokes fun with a stupid comparison and now everybody is up in arms.
The message I agree with, insensitive maybe, provocative yes, a little outspoken absolutely. I wouldn't say it, as I'm generally too polite, but Boris' deliberate provocative buffoonery is refreshing. To be honest, if it is a ploy to get into No.10 we're in the situation the US were at their election. There aren't any good choices frankly, just the lesser evil.

Anybody with kids will know that one with no malice on seeing a woman in a burka for the first time might make the same comment (if they weren't too afraid to speak). My then 3yo son's first words to my Great Aunt when he met her were "You've got big boobies!", would I have said it, no, could I see it, yes. Thankfully she laughed it off, but while I realise she could have been offended, it doesn't change the fact that the observation was a correct one.

Burka's should be banned in public places(and anything that covers your face). We should be following the likes of Netherlands, France, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Austria and Germany.

the Iranian woman at the world cup spoke volumes in Russia wearing face paint and crop top midriff showing, id wearing headscarf she wouldn't wearing that given a free choice.

A state forcing women to wear certain head wear when out in public is a little different to some women living in a country choosing to wear certain head wear.

Now on the other hand a state forcing women to not wear certain head wear out in public...
