2950X would be my choice. Thought the price would be a bit lower though for some reason, not complaining though. Too bad I have a 1950X anyway but anyone who held off on the 1950X has a good opportunity now to buy the better version :).
Not followed RY2 closely but noticed the TR2's have less L3 cache than TR1 (32 vs 40MB in the case of the 1950X). Didn't know that!

so......when TR3? :p

Are you sure re. the L3 cache? Both have 32MB as the architecture is still the same, just the die process has shrunk.

Good choice of components, I would go with that memory or Gskill. Nice £3k rig.

Except for the last item maybe! :p

Correct, I think it's the specs on the OCUK site that are wrong for the 1950X - just confirmed it's 32MB on the AMD site.

Specs look fine to me. I'm assuming you do need the 1300W power supply?

Change the board. Zenith doesn't worth the price tag. If you want top of the range mobo get the MSI MEG. It goes for less than £470 and is miles better board on all aspects.

Otherwise Asrock Taichi for around £300-325 (either full board or mATX).

Going 1300W as the 1000W is only £10 cheaper, Also going slighty OTT so fans never kick in. for silence. it will be powering the 2950x + 1/2080Ti mainly but a buncvh of M.2 eventually.

I want the MSI Meg, but ocuk doesnt stock it yet i've asked for a qoute for the Meg, as i will be getting OCUK to build this for time saving.

Personally I think having the feature of Precision Boost Overdrive would make it worth the cost.

I'd agree on MEG for a new build. The 1300W seems overkill TBH.

P95 v28.10B1 128K in place FFT, 3.9GHz ACB OC using VID: 1.318V LLC: [Auto] (ie AMD stock), results in ~1.263V current/average under load. I see MAX ~475W from wall, so I reckon PSU is outputting ~430W. F@H with same setup but CPU 28 thread load and RX VEGA 64 @ 1642MHz / 1100MHz = MAX 610W from wall, I reckon PSU is outputting ~550W.

Just saw your reasoning for 1300W :) , I'd do the same. TBH the Cooler Master V850 (OE Seasonic), I use is whisper quiet even with loads tested above.

pretty much, seems silly not to get the extra 300W for £10.... the gold rated seasonic 1000w is £150 though so food for thought...

Well satisfied with the V850, had been toying getting a 1000W or more recently and after running the tests I saw there was no point for me. My figures include rig having 2x SATA SSD, 2x SATA 7.5K HDD, 6x 120mm fans, 1x 140mm fan and EK D5 pump.

I'm using an EVGA 850 Plat and that's been great too. I'm only using 1HDD and two SSD's with it but it's been fine with Sli too, along with the 1950X. I prefer it over the Seasonic 860 Plat I have in another machine although in fairness that unit is now about 5 years old.
I can see the reasoning for getting an even high watt unit tho :)

If you want a cool-running PSU then the more efficient the better. Any inefficiency in the PSU is lost as heat and that means the fans have to run. I’d much rather have the 1000W 80-Plus Titanium than the 1300W 80+ Gold as the efficiency differential at the same load rating is about 40W of waste heat which is like running an old-school incandescent lightbulb and you know how hot they got even though most of the energy was going into light.

It will also save you money in running costs.

also considering this, due to a bunch of tasks won take advtange of the extra cores but love a nice high IPC too

That CPU looks awfully expensive when 1920Xs are available for £350. Yes it won’t have the single core IPC advantage but its less than half the price with more cores.

The 9900K will likely outperform the 7900X too.
