GPU prices go boom

Reading about the 2080 Ti more, looks like a very good card.

Price remains bonkers though, need to be daft as a brush to support this pricing.

Stay strong, don't buy at these prices. Force the price down. Start a revolution xD
In reality this isn't going to happen. People will buy, regardless. Prices will stay high from now on.

The choice each of us has is whether to buy, wait for AMD, or spend our money on something else (maybe another hobby...)

But the idea that we can collectively boycott and force prices down is just wishful thinking. Is not going to happen.

I've not bought a card in years. I'm still running an RX 290 although I am considering buying something newer. However I'll be buying a used card as I simply am not prepared to spend current new prices. I used to upgrade regularly so now that prices are high I spend overall less than when they were lower.

However I'll probably go AMD again (historically I tended to go NV) due to better drivers, better support of open technologies, better Linux drivers, better multi monitor support (hardware mixed rotation).

You've bought one haven't you? :D

Ha, no. Crazy prices.

Just takes the majority to hold firm and not buy. Prices will have to drop. Come on now people join the revolution !! xD

Weakening?
I remember considering buying a Vega 64 the same time as you. The 2080 Ti is going to be near on double that GPU, especially considering the extra toys, for less than twice the price of the Sapphire (£575 back then I think) :)
Funny thing I think will be by the time many cave in the prices of the non-direct cards might even be higher. The 2080 Ti's direct are already back towards end of Oct delivery, after just a few days. Considering many are against these prices I think NV will sell a load no problem. Considering how big the die is I wouldn't be surprised if they're going to struggle keeping up with demand and maybe not expecting to sell them in high volumes(like Pascal), hence the pricing, or at least part of the pricing.....maybe :p.
All we need is a few good reviews and the availability is going to be even worse. It'll be like bitcoin FOMO 2017 :D /8700K. THen the complaints will be more about the retailers inflating the prices further :p.
If someone is in the market for a new card, at current prices, instead of the 10 series I'd buy whatever is in the same price bracket in the 20 series. Hopefully reviews show the 1070 - 1080 Ti cards are all covered and a bit more by the 2070 & 2080

Absolutely crazy, but I am not surprised.

If I want to upgrade I will wait for good deals on the MM section.

So I was just about to purchase a new Asus 1070ti strix and then the price jumped up £40 while i went to make a brew. I have never seen prices this volatile, that they can jump up by £40 on a Saturday evening outside of office hours. It was the same on 2 sites as well, so not sure whats going on there.

I don't know whether to take it as a sign that maybe paying £470 for a 1070ti isn't a great idea with the new cards on the way... My brother will be buying my 970 strix for like £140, so that will soften the blow a bit.

GPU prices are extremely volatile as can be seen on price tracker, all the retailers are or at least the well known ones are maximising profits, if they see orders are healthy and the market will tolerate a price bump they will do it. It may also be happening to prep for a special offer as a inflated price before an offer always makes it look better. IT also doesnt surprise me it happened on 3 retailers at once, as they likely tracking each other.

They are quite likely tracking each other, but that doesn't have to be the case.

They could simply have an algorithm which simply tracks their own rate of sale, amount of stock, and nothing else. Card start selling fast, increase price. Why do the cards start selling fast? Well maybe their price is the lowest. The net result would be that it would appear that there's some sort of price tracking/collusion going on, but in fact it could just be that the rate of sale was too fast and this triggered an automatic increase in price.

just noticed 1080ti prices have gone up £100 at the bolton place
They seem consistent to me, & I'm checking there, here, another place, & the south American wilderness at least a few times a day each. I'm not desperate ....honest.:D
I want to buy here, but I can't afford to be picky

I'm actually temped by a Vega64 now they seem to be dropping in places.

The geforce 20 series just aren't worth the money at all. I don't really care about raytracing, so meh. A £450 card is enough for 4K gaming, so why would I want to pay a comical £1000+ to play at 30fps with slightly better shadows/reflections, in a handful of games. It seems like Nvidia don't have a real answer to that question either...

Dropped my 1080Ti for a Vega 64 (Strix) and for what I game on, etc I cannot fault it really.

Waiting for a Superwide monitor to arrive to make proper use of it.
