Looking for an AWD high performance practical estate... Golf R?

Why is dropping £30k on a Golf with a great performance engine and good interior/tech 'madness'? A 2017 BMW 530i tourer Xdrive is also significantly more money.

I think what he is trying to say is that at the end of the day it's still a Golf. For this kind of money you're into premium territory e.g. Audi, Mercs, BMWs.

If I was buying a Golf I'd want to spend significantly less. The one I was looking at was £22k. I bought a fully loaded Audi A4 Avant that was 8 months old and 4k miles for £31k direct from Audi.

Here's mine - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/32012206/

I'd be looking at an S4 in your position. I would take it for a drive and get over who else drives it. There's a reason it's popular.

This kind of "youve already made your mind up" post is getting tiring. I have clearly said the Golf is my favourite option and I am open to suggestions that I have not yet considered. If those suggestions after considerations not tempt me then that's just the way it is, but please just deal with it like an adult instead of taking some bizarre kind of umbrage to it. Or even better, just don't reply to the thread. :)QUOTE]

Perhaps you ought to deal with it like an adult, all I said was that it seems as if you've already made your mind up, if you don't like that comment then tough, in my opinion I feel as if you are just looking for confirmation as the other suggestions that are on par with a Golf you've poo pooed immediately, with the very specific spec you listed there is only the Golf R that ticks every box other models have somethings not in you spec list so straight away they don't meet your criteria.

Hmm I don't think adaptive is standard as I have seen a few adverts without it, and apparently it also adds a "race mode" which is not standard. However, I have also not seen any criticisms of the "harsh ride" in any of the Youtube reviews I watched such as Mat Watson at Carwow etc.
They are harsh.

You would be looking at an S4 even though it is almost another 25-30% above my budget? Thanks. :p

@Richdog

Don't know how strict your budget is but here are some slightly over £35k volvo options.

Fancy 2018 V60 Polestar

2018 V90 T6 Cross Country

Or a V60 Polestar within budget:

There are more examples <£35k. Just an option for you to consider.
That actually does look lovely and luxurious... but they are a fair bit more expensive (15-20%) than the Golf, around the same price as the S4 https://www.autoscout24.ch/de/autos...name=polestar&uprop=2&vehtyp=10&yearfrom=2017
