I love the way it's "SJW's have to moan and arand about something".

I see far more wailing, teeth nashing and utter idiocy from the self confessed "right of centre" posters and users on various sites.

Just look on this site for example, there is a fairly constant stream of threads and posts complaining about "SJW's" and how they're ruining everything from life to entertainment because of things as trivial as putting realistic female characters in a game, or having strong female leads in a film that is part of a series, or because a reboot of a classic series is going all SJW (when someone said it about Star Trek I burst out laughing and wondered if they'd ever actually seen TOS/NG etc).

I know there are some very vocal and easily excited people who will complain about stuff on the "left" of the political spectrum, but I see far, far more from the right who often can't get over the idea that what they call being "politically correct" or "SJW" and "virtue signalling" used to be called being polite, and is basically about treating someone who may have a different skin colour, religion or sexuality the same way you'd treat someone who was of the same "group" as yourself as the default.
I understand how some people can have issues with being polite, or least attempting not to be actively offensive to others, but it's not exactly some new idea or something that's going to bring around the end of the world.
 
Rather disingenuous to try and portray complaints about SJWs/identity politics as people having a problem with politeness.

You’re basically just rehashing an old canned argument from years ago regarding “politician correctness” except it doesn’t really fit.

Lots of this isn’t about treating people the same way, if anything a lot of the complaints/grumbles are about the complete opposite of that.
 
Politeness can be an incredibly maligned way to hide one's racist rhetoric behind. After all Southern US states pride themselves with such an accolade, even while they were burning black people on crucifixes.

Being polite isn't enough, you have to mean it.

That of course indeed also applies to some of the weaponised idiots on the proverbial "left", even when it includes ultra anarchists or even ultra authoritarians (politics is very weird nowadays, i've honestly given up trying to figure out who's who). Of course we also seem to live in a "troll" society now, that "SJW lefty librul" may very be fake, accordingly so might the opposite happen.

The fact is while there are always some... almost no one gives a crap about woman in games, a lot of games have woman in them playing important roles, no one cares.

It is for a small number of people historical accuracy, that's it, and no it is not historically accurate/

But mostly its first about how overtly they did it, all of the main protagonists are woman, IE all but one, all but one of the covers feature those woman and woman only... its very virtue signalling and in a world already getting idiotic with gender politics has left a lot of people feeling like EA are talking down stupid people who need gender studies education, and then confirmed it by their "you're uneducated, don't like it don't buy it" reaction.

Frankly i'm sick of identity and gender politics forcing its way into every aspect of my life, i'm sick of hearing i'm a problem simply because i'm a white male, now its overtly forcing its way into my recreational escapism, that is another very real reason why the reaction.

I hope this hurts EA and Dice severely. it absolutely needs to to stop this insane polarising crap

Well done on demonstrating exactly no understanding of the issues at hand

A female, British, soldier with a prosthetic arm in ww2 is not a 'realistic female character' it's a laughable attempt at shoehorning in extreme modern day gender and disability politics into a completely unrealistic situation.

Rey is not a 'strong female lead' she is a ridiculous Mary Sue who is overly competent in all manner of complicated force and technical challenges without any apparent prior training or experinece.

In the first start wars film Luke was (rather more believably) shown to have a poor grasp of how to use even the most basic of force powers because he was a novice. In the first film he wasn't using jedi mind control and beating trained Jedi's in ligtsaber fights. ..


In both cases the introduction and unexplainable ability and competence of the women concerned are classic examples of gender politics being injected into media.

Most people have zero issue with strong female leads in films and games... Sarah Connor, Laura Croft, Ellen Ripley are all good examples

What a lot of people object to is women whoose presence and or abilities dont make sense being shoehorned into existing franchises to appease extremist gender politics.
 
Slightly off topic.... i have a theory that with social media we are breeding narcissists, think about it they clutch their phone all day everyday writing crap about themselves for attention, the Facebook likes and shares, the confirmation of being liked.

Its the same narcissistic streak that we see in self righteous virtue signalling.

I wasn't actually referencing BF5 - I've not paid any attention to that series of games in years except to hear my brother moaning about cheaters in them* :D (it's a type of game that hasn't appealed to me in probably a decade or more**), it's more of a general comment about reactions I've seen to a number of games where they've put in female soldiers/fighters and some people have started whining about it, or going on about how unrealistic it is (whilst ignoring the rest of the game being unrealistic or taking massive liberties and the fact that there have been some very successful groups of female solders over the last thousand years or so).

And you are making teh assumption I'm talking about a specific game, I'm not. As I say, I didn't even know about BF5, I was thinking of other games.

*I think he stopped playing about the time of BF3 as the cheaters were too common (I maybe getting confused with the title - I know he stopped playing several series of multi player "team" games because they kept reusing the same engines without fixing the exploits).

**I think I played one of the originals back in about 2001 although it may have just been a similar name.

Other than what we are talking about here I have never seen anyone complaining about Woman in games, never, i have no doubt there are some, but its a tiny tiny fraction of gamers, a tiny fraction who are idiots.

I think misogyny in video games is entirely invented by radical feminists wanting a reason to force their ideology control over it.
 
Nobody complained about strong female characters years ago, when they weren't political statements first and well-developed characters a distant (or non-existent) second.

"Strong female characters" in modern games/films are just the most un-believable kind; a box-ticking, point-scoring political exercise. Characters with no weaknesses; never displaying any kind of vulnerability; always more competent than the men around them (in everything).

It's become a weird kind of fetish for media creators. And then they go around whipping up the "progressives" to defend their 1-dimensional characters in their terrible, awful stories; dismissing any and all criticism of their crap as an attack on women/social justice. Lol.
 
The problem these days is you can't do anything without politics being rammed down your throat, games and sport used to be an escape from real life but these days they're infested with political messages and political propaganda and it's so blatant and totally out of place that people are just sick of it. It's like Doctor Who becoming a woman and the calls for James Bond to be a black man (and probably eventually a trangender woman), it has no purpose other than to achieve the lefts insatiable appetite for tearing down the familiar/traditional and putting people in some bizarre parallel universe where women have penises.

There are plenty of good films/games with women and black people in leading roles but it's like the far left just want to enrage everyone by fixing everything that isn't broken with their war on the white male.

Does every TV show/film thats been on since the 70's absolutely HAVE to be a white middle aged man? Is it impossible to even consider that MI6 might have recruited the best man for the job, and he happens to be black? Is the sonic screwdriver too heavy for a woman to possibly hold?

James Bond is a guy, should always be played by a guy and a white guy for that matter.

Doctor Who.. while I don't agree with the sex change, he's a time lord who keeps remaking himself when he dies. so I don't mind so much or care too much.

If they want a women spy movie, am sure there is some book out there, some story, some poor author who is dying for a movie or tv contract where they can spin a dozen or so movies from.

For all I care, they can make a whole new original IP with 015 who is a women who works with 007.

010 can be a black guy, 111 can be a rainbow waving lesbian too.

Nothing, but you're missing the point, it gets to the point where its a black disabled woman because its a good virtue to signal, see Ocean's 8, Ghostbusters 2016.... all woman cast purely to redress the balance of the originals being all men cast, both movies are utter junk, great franchises wrecked in the name of gender politics.

James Bond isn't a black man though. If they want to create a new black agent called 009 or whatever then that's absolutely fine, but James Bond IS a middle aged upper class white man. No one gives a damn about introducing new characters but changing existing ones is what many people have an issue with.

Why is the difference between Connery, Moore, Craig, etc. unimportant but skin colour such a big deal for you?
