******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

See, As an avid Elite Dangerous player I have come to realise that - in that game at least - no matter what Frontier do, there are players who will do what ever it takes to exploit loopholes. Ultimately FD waste lots of time and updates on trying to stop a small section of players acting in a certain way, and what happens is it makes it an inconvenience for the majority of players and the small segment of players still manage to find a way around it any way.

I think the main issue with ED is that FDev don't test anything & don't play the game like 'gamers' do; to them playing the game is logging in once a week and doing a delivery mission in their T6 (none of them have one of the big three without dev magic). This is why everything arrives completely unbalanced, see how mining rewards arrived in the beta, and/or broken. CIG employers at least have to play the game as players do as part of their job so I think they'll probably handle it better tbh.

yeah you are right about their testing process.... and that it is apparent that they do not play the game in the wild that much.

understandable i guess, i know i do not go home and then decide to do some genome annotation for fun!!!

however you are right that in every single ED update their balance is a complete pigs ear and this is something that i really hope CIG do better.

I have ED and i cannot help but agree with FTR on this, i do worry that what CR is looking for is more space shuttle flight and systems micromanagement than throw the ship around dog fighting, he's right the early flight model this game had felt much better than it does now and i fear they ain't done dulling it down yet. I also agree with FTR on the UI, it is confused, cluttered and honestly the large blurry day-glow font looks like something from 2005, again the older HUD UI was at least sharper, it looked more crisp.

I removed it, seems someone beat me to it, this was it.

This was 3 years ago, its becoming increasingly difficult to maneuver even an agile ship like the Anvil Arrow like this, they are deliberately adding in elasticity into the thrusters to dull the sharp accurate handling you see here, now you just could not pull the ships nose up or sideways with any sort of force and place your aim quickly and accurately onto the target, it just wouldn't work, its so elastic it feels and behaves like there is huge input lag flying brick like behaviour.

They have sucked the fun out of it 'perhaps to placate realists?

You sure it’s not because of your flying *chuckle*

Seriously though the important thing again is balance! They can’t have an arrow and a Connie for example flying exactly the same. It’s been a while since I flew and nippy ships, the last fastish thing I had was a super hornet and I didn’t have any complaints about the flight then!

Not sure about then!

Well i have just done some Vanduul Swarm in 3.4 PTU, the ship feels a little more responsive again but the NPC AI is atrocious..... i'll explain when i have uploaded the video.

PS: Notice the other player was a Hornet, and doubled his score with a 325A? cuz i'm awesome :P

I liked what I saw at Citizencon in regards to the flight model, something more realistic is welcomed, I'd say, and also micromanagement could be interesting and keep you busy while you travel from one part to the other (especially on larger ships). Of course, this NEEDS to be perfectly explained in some form of tutorial.

What I'm most worried at this point, is the time required to go from one place to another. If for hauling some goods you need 30min or more... could get boring soon.

I did, i left you a like and a comment ^^^^ :)

During 'pre-PTU testing' travailing from Crusader to Hurston in the Anvil Arrow my QT drive overheated 5 times, maybe they think sitting in space waiting for your ship to cool down will add some fun to the game?
Dunno if it still does this in 3.4, i havent't been that distance in the Arrow yet, doesn't do it in the 600i or and of the new Lancer variants.
--------------

Aside from the main point i want to make there are a couple of little things that have changed over the years that are bugging me, As i said before the older UI was better but another thing that makes a game is Audio, and i'm sorry but the Audio is SC is now a little lazy.

For example you go back to the 325A Vanduul Swarm video i have linked above, listen to it, there is so much sound going on, good stuff, hear the ship rattling, and different kinds of rattling when manoeuvring, different stressing on the frame result in different sounds, the engines have different crackly noises, the thrusters chirp when shutting down, can you hear that?
Its all gone, now its just a flat and rather annoying whine...

The video below, this is what the Connie used to sound like starting up its engines, its a 5+ second sequence with multiple noise building to an explosive climax. now it just sounds like starting up a Toyota Prius, no theater....

I agree with that Guy, ^^^^ sadly that noise is now gone replaced by, well nothing...

Anyway.

Along with the Audio i think they also used "Intern Dave" (As Darklaw would put it) to reprogram the AI, 3 years ago the AI wasn't great but it was much better than it is now, they don't really move much now, where as they used to chase you all over the map and move in an unpredictable way now they just wale over and turn in a very tight circle very slowly, occasionally they will fly out in straight line for a KM and then go back to flying round in slow tight circles again, or they just stop and sit there, see from this time frame that behaviour
.... its pathetic, the whole video, only a few min to give you an idea of what's going on the the AI

i didn't even need to move anywhere much.
They need to take a look at themselves and ask if they are going in the right direction, there is something to be said for a little arcade'ishness, just a bit of theater otherwise its just a mundane sim.

I don't doubt there are lots of stuff to improve, in no shape I would say the game is fine, but in principle, I don't mind doing a bit of extra stuff compared to other games in order to improve the immersion. Sure, that better immersion includes better sounds, better UI, better flight model, AI, etc. I do hope they'll eventually come together perfectly.

The new flight model should drop in soon and then it can be analyzed and each can throw his 2 cents on the matter in order to fine tune it, but until until then these are, for now, concerns (valid, I admit), not really facts - seen as "yeah, in the future will be bad too"! Quite the opposite to what that guy was saying, the ships should feel different in space compared to the atmosphere (more WW 2 like for aerodynamic ships and more like a brick for the rest), so the "old" feel of the ships, in theory and for some of them that are actually build for that, should return.

Time will tell. :)

It's funny on ED forums people seem to think immersion and building a consistent and semi plausible universe where you actually have to do some house keeping stuff means making a boring game.
I refuse to believe that we can't have our cake and eat it and have all of the above... And I applaud CIG if they attempt this
