*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I've never met one and they don't work for Sky? Do you know one and can ask them what it's like to work for Sky?
Was only jesting, I love my footie, but it's sky and BT who have gone mad on the bidding for the tv rights, hence higher bills, hence why I talk about the footie players being sky workers.. Out of interest, what is the cheapest sky package with hd for sports, ie the football?

Basic Entertainment is £20 but you can sometimes get a cheaper deal, then Sports is £22pm including Sports HD. I do have some new customer codes for full package for 18m at £45 though.

I need some advice please people of OcUk.

My parents signed a brand new contract with Sky in June (2018), now they are paying £130 a month for the full sky package, HD, phone and broadband. At the end of November my dad was diagnosed with Dementia and has since been moved to a home (he has deteriorated rapidly since Sept) and I don't believe he will ever return home, which is terrible, but my mother and I have to face the facts.

Therefore my mother, who does not use Sky TV, has been left with this massive bill and now wants out. It is an 18 month contract, how do we go about cancelling this without incurring a massive bill?

We don't have power of attorney, unfortunately. Any advice would be great.

Sorry to hear about your dad but you'd be better phoning Sky and asking that question. The main T's and C's don't seem to cover ill health.

I have a question, back just over a year ago I was on a rolling 50% discount on sky HD+. I then signed up to sky Q, and asked if my rolling discount will continue. Now after 12 month's it's gone up to full price.

Is there anything I can do. Or do I have to now wait till the 18 month contract is up.

No Sky discount is for ever! You can certainly ask the question about a discount.

Sorry for your loss, working with dementia sufferers for most of my working life, it's a hard road ahead. My advice would be to tell Sky, worst they can say is no, but they maybe will help.. unfortunately you aren't in a unique situation, and contrary to popular belief, Sky might well help you out. Dementia affects everyone, whether it's direct family or a close friend/member of the community. Ask them, you might be surprised..

Ask to speak with accessibility when you call. They’re experienced in dealing with issues like this and will give you your options. They also have a bit more leeway and aren’t as strict about policy at times.

Hi,

I'm trying to negotiate with Sky, and they've offered an 'ok' deal, but I'm not sure if I should hold out for better. I currently have all channels, sport, cinema, box sets, sky go extra, HD, 3D, on an old 2TB HD box. I'm paying £57.50 per month and am looking for the same channels on Sky Q, 2TB box, with 1 mini box in another room, and Ultimate on-demand, so it includes Netflix. They've offered £70 per month with £35 install from the Retention Department. I said that wasn't good enough and it was still to high a price to pay, so I cancelled my subscription (in the hope of a better offer).

I cancelled a week ago, and so far the offers have been rubbish. Should I hold out for a couple more weeks, or am I not likely to get a better offer? If the latter, I should probably take it asap, as my original deal has now run out and I'll be paying a higher rate on the remaining 3 weeks on my contract.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Desbo

Hey Desbo

Did sky contact you after you cancelled ?
My deal expires next month so I’ll be in the same boat as you soon , would be interested to hear how you get on.

Good luck !

I’ve not had a call or anything’s mg in the post as yet. I’ve had an offer through the Sky box for £15 per month for the entertainment pack, then a separate offer through My Sky online for £32 for Sports and Cinema.

is there really any economy of having netflix via sky ? or does it just muddy the negotiation waters on those costs sky do control

There's no economy to it - it's more the convenience of having Netflix shows side-by-side with Sky shows in the planner instead of turning on the Apple TV.

It seems that Sky charge £10 for the Ultimate on demand feature, which includes Netflix, and there are no deals on that. Whatever package I go for, it'll be an extra tenner for UoD.

The UOD includes box sets so there is an overall saving. It’s not much but it is a saving! £2.99 on standard Netflix plan and £4.99 on premium. Of course this relies on you already having box sets.

Yeah we currently pay £10 for Netflix premium, and have box sets as part of our package, so in theory if we went with the UoD package we'd save £5 a month, which is nearly half of the UHD/Multiroom sub </manmaths>.

@MissChief , what's the crack with trying to haggle when you're at the end of your intro period when you've got Sky Q? I'm all for cancelling and waiting for a decent deal to come along but Sky are surely going to want their Q box aren't they as I'm only renting it!?

Correct. They'll actually disable the box 14 days after your contract ends to 'encourage' you to return it.
