New Toyota Supra formally announced

It was never going to be quite like the concept. For a start the concept has no bonnet, panel gaps or door handles. That alone with change the look :p

Flattening the lines along the doors and rear quarter was a shame though. The bonnet is much higher as well (quite a lot higher than the gt86's).

Sadly agree on the interior but it’s functional and will have a good infotainment + build quality.

Wheels won’t be stock for long!

Comes with forged wheels though, which are going to be a lot better than most aftermarkets unless your spending a few £1000 :P

Concepts also don't have to worry about pedestrian safety regulations and a whole host of other stuff that eventually dictates the final car. I'm disappointed it's not a little more FT-1 but I do think it'll be a bit of a grower as we see them on the road. The facelift GT86 had a similar odd look initially, but I've grown to appreciate it as time's gone by. I think the A90 looks a whole lot better once it has a wing on it, I've seen photoshops with SARD style wings which look great.

Lots of people moaning about the 335bhp, which is understandable given the potential the engine carries. But, Toyota cars have 5 years worth of warranty so I guess they're keeping the output conservative so as to keep it running well. That said, isn't the block a closed block design with some factory forged bits? If so I can't see it being too long before some big power mods start appearing. I know of two '86 tuners that have put orders in for the new car and I can't wait to see what they come up with. :)

Look forward to seeing photos of it Nath.

My only gripe with the design is I feel like they should have kept some more of the original style.

I know it’s a brand new car so the looks will probably grow on you after a period of time but at the moment I don’t look at it and think ‘that’s a Supra’.

I don't think we'll see massive tunes on the stock engine like on the old Supra though. They don't make engines like the 2JZ anymore.

In fact I can see people sticking their 2JZ in these :D

It is almost as if it has been done on purpose because BMW do not want to lose sales of the BMW M2. Toyota shouldn't have been so tight and just made their own engine.

Hmmm, oversold somewhat.

The biggest thing for me is the nose, the Enzo like nose is gone, if that stayed it would've made a massive difference. I guess the retracting rear wing would've been nice.

I guess the radiator or intercooler is behind the hole in the middle which is the reason for the nose change. The biggest thing is the bonnet height, I guess they had to raise it to fit a V6 in and still meet pedestrian safety regulations :/

Yeah, it would require a redesign of the internals with that concept car nose, seeing it shares parts with the BMW, this is never going to be possible seeing the BMW has the radiator in the centre.

The ducktail wing would look good on this.

Creating a two seater sports car in today's market is a huge risk. The only way this project would have made any sense at all was with the sharing of development with BMW. We should be thankful of that. :)

Love it personally, Will consider next year 100%

Like the fact it has a proven and pretty great engine, One where 400hp should be doable with minimum fuss.
Plus the 8 speed Auto that's in so many cars now and is genuinely very good indeed, then add in the shorter ratios vs the other cars it's in and i'm sure it will be a right laugh, I like that its slightly shorter than the Mk4 too.

I actually like the interior :)

Would prefer an original supra

which one?

guy across the road has one from the 80's it's the first one they made and it looks hideous. he's bought it planked it on his driveway then put a cover on it. hasn't moved in 6 months now. i think my dad owned the mk2 twin turbo 3 litre. it's the mk3 which looks best IMO.

i saw he did start it up once and rev it a few times then turned off.

i'm guessing it's SORN'd i take it doesn't need to pay road tax soon anyway due to it's age. but since it's not being run and standing still. it will likely be doing more harm than good. plus rust has to be an issue with it being out in the wet and cold in scotland.

they do seem to be going up in value and are extremely sought after. only so many on the road but a huge risk for him to take. it can't have been cheap to buy unless he's had it in storage and now is the first time i'm seeing it.
