Are India and Pakistan about to have another showdown?

I made a comment that at my High School the lads after 9/11 had bin Laden pics in their day books. I also said at least 4 went on to be arrested for terrorism offences later.

Posters here denounced and called it ridiculous. SexyG came to defence to say he had encountered something similar at another local(ish) school. I even posted 3 if memory serves of the people arrested for terrorism. But because I had witnessed it and posted about it, it must be a lie because I cannot post proof. I've had egg on toast this morning. That must be a lie (a delicious one mind) but a lie.

Interesting to know your experience(s)

After what I saw while growing up in the UK that wouldn't be hard to believe.

I moved away from "home" because I didn't want my kids (didn't have any at the time) exposed to that.

I understand. We all know what things we have experienced. People question them, sure. But when people back up what you say and they still cry heretic /denier it becomes a tedium.

Where are you located now?

I was there. After she was shot people were gathered around radios waiting to see if she survived.

100% I can believe this.

As mentioned, in India the moment there are people celebrating en masses because of the airstrike against a training camp in Pakistan that killed god knows how many people.

These are literally a few screenshots from my facebook feed glorifying the Indian response. Personally I find it difficult to digest.

I cant remember there being en masses celebrations when the US killed Bin Laden, or when Saddam was overthrown etc.

I understand the whys of the military response response but to celebrate it is a mentality I just do not understand or can empathize with.

I was at a meeting this morning, and literally three of the guys I was meeting were high fiving each other on the Indian response followed by a swift recount of the national anthem.

Bonkers....

And to think this could have been handled better had we not had a total idiot for governor in British India at the partition.

Regardless, it’s no longer relevant, it’s up to Pakistan to stop harbouring terrorists and for both countries to finally start talking.

People are celebrating Brexit. Effectively shooting oneself in the foot. Not quite as extreme but not too far removed.

The US also celebrate more than we do, perhaps that's their culture?

I thought you loved terrorists?

Britain is responsible for Kashmir isn't it?

Can’t tell if antagonistic or just asking, but the way partition was handled was just straight up disaster.

It’s what happens when you let idiot plebs who think they’re able to do anything because they’re an aristocrat that went to a private school/oxbridge.

Serious question, did the US celebrate any of its military activity in the middle east?

A military necessity is one thing, but to whoop, cheer and sing the national anthem to an act that ultimately cost someone's life is another thing altogether.

Another 3 domestic airports have just closed down, I hope this ends soon!

It is rather more to the point that the British Empire (Like all empires really) was one of consent.

India submitted to British rule for as long as they were content to do so. Once they were no longer willing to do so we had nowhere near the necessary resources, ether militarily or economically, to have any real influence on how things developed.

With the best will in the world, division of British troops was never really going to be able to do anything to prevent millions of people from trying to kill one another once they had set their minds to the task.

Perhaps, but they still respected our opinion, even to this day. Had someone of more able mettle been in charge of the last years of dominion, perhaps a more sensible plan might have been found, but again it’s still rather irrelevant I only bring it up for self loathing reasons.

Imran Khan prime minister of Pakistan has said that both sides need to sit down and try to resolve the crisis.

Whether that will happen or not is another thing altogether.

Sad that it’s come to this, I’m still hopeful, as a Pakistani myself that somehow they alleviate the situation. Wasn’t that long ago that both Pakistan and India were on more ‘friendlier’ terms.

The wife had a Pakistani bloke join her company a year or two back and the animosity between him and a long term Indian employee was tangible. Apparently it was like keeping two pugnacious drunks apart some of the time. He moved on before it got really unpleasant but the conduct was at best unseemly, and at worst disturbing.

Racism is far from white versus black, I consider it mainly tribal to be honest, tribalism is still a strong human trait, from arguments over 3 inches of boundary line fence placement to football fans and currently the "county lines" drug dealers.

Thanks for the replies, it's a worrying escalation that could have global consequences if it gets out of hand.
