What film did you watch last night?

freeview - Now caught up on (2015) man from Uncle : 8/10
this is great pastiche of Austin Powers/Mission Impossible/Kingsman/Bond-villains and a real homage to the original series - stylised, black humour and all - thanks Guy Ritchie.
Alicia Vikander has that Audrey Hepburn allure ... music score good.

Lego movie 2

5/5

The tone of these films is always spot on. Silly but with heart. Actually this film has ‘the feels’ all over the place... and some really quite deep themes about challenging emotions and being honest with yourself.

Fantastic.

Robin Hood (2018)
Good grief how/why did they even release this? Just terrible from the opening scene to the final credits. Casting/acting/script/wardrobe all wrong, poor, laughable and baffling.
1/10

Future World
Yes I knew this would be bad but it made Robin Hood look almost passable. Honestly the film should have been binned. Utter garbage.

So much wrong with it I can’t be bothered to list it all.

The Purge

Meh...interesting concept. Predictable story. Couldn't stand Ethan Hawke but I can't stand him in anything so no surprise there. It passed the time but I won't be rewatching.

These films get better with the sequels. Still pretty dumb and ultimately passable.

Total missed opportunity with the first movie, 2 and 3 are much better as you get out into the city...however the latest one and the Amazon series are tragic.

Spideman: Into The Spiderverse

Went in to this unsure of what to expect, but I was happily surprised even though it was generally well praised.
Undoubtably the best Spiderman film!
Fantastic animation, great humour and meta-jokes, and even tugged on me emotionally at the end.
Easily better than most of the general MCU offerings.

9/10

Teen Titans Go: To The Movies

Alas, this did not live up to the hype (or was dulled by watching the above beforehand).
Funny at times, especially the pokes at Marvel, but over all not as consistanly funny as the normal TV show (I think it was the constant songs that put me off a bit).

Checked out the first episode of Deathnote last night on Netflix. Very good but not what I was really after/perhaps it's not quite my kind of thing.

bohemian rhapsody (2nd time watching)

Still a superb film, totally deserved Oscar for Malik.....great performance, well put together and still one of the best films seen in ages.

First Man. 5/10

Strangely unmoving and pedestrian, I was ready with the Kleenex as per Kermode's gushing review, and nothing.

And the shaky camera, God almighty that is so 1st year Film School, yeah, we get it, the rocket's going fast so we get shaky viewpoints, but not all the time

Either Gosling can't act or Armstrong is a dull fellow.

Gosling can't act

Go watch The Right Stuff.

What we do in the Shadows - pure brilliance from Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement. Mockumentary about some ancient vampires living in modern day New Zealand, would recommend to anyone. 5/5
Ah, ive seen this, its fantastic :D

What We Do In The Shadows - 8/10
Hilarious mockumentary about vampire life in New Zealand. There's something about the dry Kiwi humour that just makes my sides split.

I take it you guys know the TV series starts in a couple of weeks?:D

First Man - 8/10

Okay but a bit drawn out, could have trimmed some of the personal and family aspects. Lacked the pace and drive of Apollo 13 albeit the space flight sequences were good once they got going. Serves to illustrate the gulf between the reality of space flight, even to this day and the more fanciful scifi. Liked the comment Armstrong's missus passed to the head honcho at NASA, bunch of boys playing with balsa wood models.

Free Solo

...my god, the tension! I was literally on the edge of the sofa watching this. Utterly brilliant! No acting involved. Just pure adrenaline.
