What film did you watch last night?

Enemy of the State - 6/10

Hadn't seen it in ages, so I thought I'd give it a go. Didn't enjoy it as much as I remembered. Was OK though - And pretty crazy they were talking about this issue in 1998, when it's pretty hot topic even today...

Free Solo

...my god, the tension! I was literally on the edge of the sofa watching this. Utterly brilliant! No acting involved. Just pure adrenaline.

Just watching the trailer for that film gave me sweaty palms :p

Isn't It Romantic

Rom-com that takes meta pokes at rom-coms. Pretty generic, but there are a few well-written zingers here and there. Resting-murder-face got a lol.

6/10

Wrecked.

This is one of those dreadful Adrien Brody films that make you say 'Oh no, it's one of those dreadful Adrien Brody films!' Parental guidance rating: AB for Adrien Brody. Contains scenes of Adrien Brody.

Brody wakes up in a smashed car at the bottom of a ravine, and quickly realises one of his legs is badly damaged. The other occupant of the car (also male) is dead in the back seat. Brody has no recollection of events, and doesn't even remember who he is.

Occasionally a woman comes to visit him. Sometimes she speaks; sometimes she does not. Brody finds her presence unsettling, and grows increasingly frustrated by her irregular appearances. Meanwhile, he strives to extricate himself from the car and learn the truth of his situation. As he does so, an unpleasant narrative is slowly pieced together.

Wrecked drags out its 90 minutes with no particular urgency. Brody's character is completely unrelatable, and most of the remaining 7 cast members are as redundant as they are dull. Editing is poor, with some curiously inept transitions and very obvious jump cuts. The colour pallette is unimaginative, as you would expect from a Brody production.

Speaking of production, this peculiar waste of cellulose has eight executive producers (including Brody himself), two associate producers, two co-producers, one line producer, and one vanilla producer, for a staggering total of 14 producers.

Wrecked lived up to its name by self-destructing at the box office, where it proved a critical and financial failure, earning just $4,821 gross in the US domestic market. Losses must have been staggering, so I can only assume that the whole thing was an elaborate tax break scheme cooked up by Brody's accountant.

I rate Wrecked at 6.66 on the Haglee Scale, which works out as an incomprehensibly awful 2/10 on IMDB.

Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse

Oh man, I had SO much fun watching this last night. I had been highly anticipating this movie ever since I saw the first trailer and truely I am gutted I missed it at the cinema, but it didn't stop me from enjoying this from start to finish yesterday. I absolutely loved it. The animation style is incredible and breathtaking, the last time I was blown away in the same sense was when I watched Kubo & the two strings. Watching Spideyman was like watching a comic book come to life. I thought the voices of all the different spiders were perfect, especially Nic Cage. The comedy in the movie was totally spot on all the way through. It had me full on belly laughing multiple times (I died at the bagel scene) - the soundtrack is excellent. The whole thing is just...wow. If I had seen it in 2018 I think it would have been my movie of the year :)

In a way, I hope they don't make a sequel, and just leave it as a one hit wonder classic. Like Wall-E in that sense.

Best Spider-man movie ever :)

I need to watch this :) Just need to get the mrs on board, could be tricky :(

What I wasn't expecting was the comedy in it. It genuinely had me in a right state at times. If I was drinking anything I would have spat it across the room. :)

Great film, animation, story, humour. Nice change of pace for the typical Spiderman films too.

From the sounds of you'd be better sticking with Wrecked (not a film but good fun nonetheless! :D)
