AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

PUBG with all its bad blurry textures and no inbuilt benchmark as far as i am aware. Dont even know why it would be used as a benchmark.

Maybe Intel/Nvidia are just better with crap textures.

Lets just use DayZ Standalone for a benchmark instead, i mean it is the newest game engine (Enfusion) out at the moment.. maybe i shall tweet the devs asking them to create an inbuilt benchmark, but even then that wont be good enough.

Im just gona pick up a 3800X, throw it in my MSI Carbon X470 and be happy :)

Geekbench comparison: i3 9100F vs 3600 on Geekbench, both 3.6/4.2.

https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/compare/13339177?baseline=13302657

Geekbench comparison 8700 vs 3600, different frequencies but both at 2933mhz RAM.

https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/compare/13274164?baseline=13339177

There are higher 8700 Geekbench scores of course, but this is still above average.

This first link, if we assume they are both running at the same clock speed (they both say 3.6Ghz) it suggests Zen 2 has 10% higher ST IPC vs Coffeelake

Yet if you look at the second one, the 8700 is listed at 3.2Ghz with the 3600 at 3.6Ghz and the ST scores are the same, the 8700 is the same CPU.

Heres the reality about that.

The 8700 ST Turbo's to 4.6Ghz
The 9100F ST Turbo's to 4.2Ghz

The 8700 Turbos about 10% and scores 10% higher in ST vs the 9100F, it scores the same as the 3600, which Turbos to 4.2Ghz, the same as the 9100F.

So in conclusion to that, in Geekbench at least, Zen 2 has 10% higher IPC than Coffeelake.

Good spot...

it's already been explained why, it's a piece of software that has historically always favoured intel. now amd can show their chips matching or beating it in a piece of software that has always preferred intel chips. the content of that software is irrelevant, you're just getting hung up on the pubg name as i'm assuming you don't like the game.

They showed PUBG and your claiming Zen2 is slower in "GAMES" PLURAL.

Take one game, the one that's almost worst case for AMD, and then use wording that applies that result across every game.

You're like a professional Spin Doctor, DG, i should start calling you Alastair Campbell, no one likes him because of his slimy use of language, don't be so surprised people get a bit sick of you.

NDA can't be the 7th surely? Thought Pre-order was the 1st?

No-one should pre-order before seeing benchmarks.
That's literally what always happens. NDA lifts the second the products are officially launched, by which time preorders have already shipped. Still doesn't stop people.

Dont assume, i an not hung up at all, i watch some streamers play it, usually the ex Arma 3 BR players.

To me its more about how good the players are than the game itself. I did the Alpha and Closed Beta in the hope it would be closer to Arma 3 Battle Royale but in the end it was too much like H1Z1 so i never bought it. PlayerUnknown saw more $$$ making it how he did.

I just dont understand benching a game which can have things that skew the results, like server pings and no exact scenario each time its ran. HU uses PUBG in their benches which i just take no notice of most of the time because theres too many variables.

So even though the 3600 and the 3900 beat intel in pubg, the depressing part is that PUBG just had an update to work with multicore systems, so I bet if you compare a 2700x to a 8700k now the difference will be a lot closer, making this new comparison a bit lame.

We ideally would need to see how it compared before this update for an actual real idication of how it performs in pubg/games against intel.

Watch him start rocking in the corner instead, repeatedly saying 'Intel is the best for gaming, Intel is the best for gaming...'

until i see actual proof of that im okay :D

as said the amd cpu benchmarked in pubg was slower. it was a 8700. not a k version. they chose a non k version for very obvious reasons.

Just to provide a counter argument to DG's obsession with PUBG

2700X @ 4.2Ghz vs 8700K @ 5.0Ghz: 8700K + 19% higher clocks

8700K = 122 (+17%)
2700X = 104

So for 19% higher clocks the 8700K is 17% faster in PUBG.

You guys have missed my post / point, i feel it's pretty important in this conversation
i.e that it beats intel because of the multi core optimization, not the pure single core power like it makes you believe

They? It's some random user on Chiphell.

It's a $200 Ryzen 3600, why compare it to a 9900k? :D

That's the only benchmark we have apart from AMD stating the new Ryzen chips have a 22% improvement.

my apologies, you're quite right, one should never assume. while it may not be the purists choice to use to highlight the improvements on Zen1 & Zen+ there will have been a lot of eyes light up at seeing an amd chip match or better an intel in pubg. it's a headline catcher first and foremost. many knew pubg has long favoured intel and nvidia so amd are just beating the popularity drum with this one.

I know PUBG recently got a Ryzen patch, couple weeks ago? and the point is with that patch its obviously going to do better on Ryzen than it has in the past, vs Intel, so that will no doubt play into the latest Zen 2 PUBG stuff that's coming out.

Arma III was the same, Ryzen performance was not particular good compared to Intel, until it was patched and now it is, same with Rise of the Tomb Raider......

The thing here is cherry picking games that for whatever reason at a particular time don't run as well on Ryzen as they do on Intel and then trying to apply that as if its the norm across all games, which is nothing less than slimy spin.

Your point is correct and in good faith, we can't say that for DG.

Thanks for helping put up the price of products.
anytime. Last year I'w ordered cpu from Binning site and paid bit over 400 pounds for my 2700x for extra 50mhz :] ofc preordering 3900x on 1st July my late Birthday self gift. Like 2700x and 1700x ware :D
Ill be happy with 12x4.4 on my cooling.

No probs, not long to wait and see for ourselves.. well i wont as i dont have PUBG lol

I am mainly a DayZ player now but nobody benches that game.. if only.

How could you bench on DayZ reliably? Server FPS will be tied to player-counts.

I guess you could use offline mod but wouldn't that technically spin up a local server?
