It's too hot :(

MY heating came on this morning . When I said I wanted it to cool down a bit, I didn't mean turn into autumn.. Although saying that, I went outside this morning and the air was clean and crisp and felt really nice.

Yeah definitely felt autumnal especially yesterday temperature dropped so much I had to put the shorts away and pull on trousers! Havn't done that since May! Even had to throw a sweatshirt on outdoors! Its been as windy as hell my beans are getting battered just as they're out in full flower grr. Not a drop of bloody rain though spent hours with the hose watering yesterday even the shrubs are dying of drought.

Looks like into September might warm up a bit though some way off yet - wouldn't be surprised to see some last gasp of summer though.

Roasting hot here in KL yesterday, 35°c and 70% humidity. We asked a Grab (Uber in SE Asia) driver what the coldest temp was he had experienced here and he said 23°c when everyone had to use blankets!

Summer has been pretty much last gasping from the beginning. I can count all the good days on both hands.

Best summer for a decade I reckon, last 8 summers or so have all had droughts by official UK definition, this the first summer for a long time that hasnt had one (so far).

Mad

Seems you have set it to a pretty high trigger temp, I know its been a mild summer, but its hardly cold.

Its 2am here and I got no top on. Still very warm.

I guess you live in the west?

The previous 8 summers prior to this in south east, the average dry day percentage has been over 90%. I believe it was 4 years ago Leicester had 6 weeks and 4 days in a row with sunny weather no rain at all. Temps were insanely hot. Thats a lot of hands.

Some nights here in Somerset have been getting down to single digit temperatures - summer never really happened here - few nice days early on then very meh weather lots of overcast days and not much of anything, one day of sunshine in the 30s and now and again some hot and humid days but under cloud.

Its crazy we basically have 2 climates on one small island. Because the westerlies usually dont make it to the east, they fighting another weather pattern from europe that controls east of uk.

24.3C in my room right now, 19C outside. This is one of the coolest summer days here for a while, I have never been down to single digits in june/july/august where I live.

It's set to 21c, so must have dropped below that. Currently 22c, so it'll probably come on again. If it was up to me it would be set to 18c or below.

Over 30 degrees when I was in Barcelona during weekend. Returned home yesterday to slightly cooler temperatures now...... Depressing :(

As west as you can be without being classed north west I guess. Previous years, whilst not being spectacular, have been much better than this summer.

Pretty much responded with what I was going to reply with to the first quote. The south east pretty much has a different climate to the rest of this island. Every once in a while you lot share it with the rest of us. :D

Exactly the same here with the exception of lots and lots of rain. Yesterday peaked at 14c and dropped to 8c overnight and it's looking like a similar day today.

I haven't seen so many coats/jackets and umbrellas during the summer season in quite a while.

So everyone moaning about the sun previously...is this SERIOUSLY what you prefer?

What a terrible ass 'summer'. Not being able to go outside in fear of getting soaking wet, in what is supposed to be the hottest part of the year is nothing to be happy about.

I had to put the heating on to satisfy my mother this morning, but I was secretly pleased because it was a bit autumnal in the house. However I'll still take this over enduring claustrophobic, work-hampering, exhaustion-generating, muggy-fuggy sweat-buckety heat.

Hot weather's fine for folk with nowt to do, but the industrial revolution that leapfrogged us over other nations in the past wasn't built on siestas and lying by the pool drinking sangria while dreaming up an Inuit style list of words to describe clear blue skies and blazing sunshine. No, it was built on rain and mills and scraping the mildew off your lard butties.

Ok, and slave labour from the working class, slave-trade generated raw materials, and Dickensian squallor. You can't have all that in a hot climate.

Having said that, our economy these days is built on selling each other insurance, coffee, and false nails, so we could probably cope with a bit more warmth; there's a bigger premium to be made off iced lattes. Farmers would probably be a bit happier too. Dry weather's a curse, but so's having to harvest drowned crops in six inches of mud and fly-tipped asbestos.

Still, for those of us missing the heat, just put on your winter coat and try cleaning the oven while it's on. That duplicates the sensation of trying to work without air con quite well. Me though, I'm off to unplug the solar panels and install water wheels on all our downpipes. Rain power is the future, forget fusion.
