Greta Thunberg

Yes, the planet has been colder, it has been warmer as climate change is a naturally phenomenon. BUT If we keep getting warmer at the rate we're seeing, sea levels will rise and it will affect millions of peoples lives. We've been too slow to react to the problems we've been causing.

If sea level rises were a real near threat, why do banks and financial lenders keep lending money to developers in areas that are predicted to go under water, surely they'd forecast that into their risk assessments?

I remember doomsdayer Al Gore saying by 2014 the ice caps would melt and now look, even Greenlands glaciers are growing

What is she ignorant about, and what is she being deceitful on and maybe you'd have a point. Rather than just attacking her like everyone else, with no substance.

She's ignorant about what has been done and about possible solutions to problems. She's deceitful about what has been done and is being done. She's promoting irrational prejudice and division, very strongly. I don't care about the faithful who have beatified her, so I will not pretend that it's a sin to treat her like any other politician. Particularly since she has power without responsibility, which is particularly dangerous for a politician.

She's not particular terrible for her age. It's common for adolescents to think they have all the answers (even if they have none at all, like her) and that anyone more than a few years older than them knows nothing at best and is deliberately bad at worst. What's not common is to give someone like that a lot of power and forbid anything other than veneration of them, regardless of what they say, while they take credit for other people's work.

"We are at one of the lowest levels of CO2 in earths history"

Dr. Richard Keen - "Keen is the lowest rank of ‘instuctor’ at the University in the meteorology department. Keen’s quiz and arguments are extremely suspect going beyond just cherry picking but going out to mis-inform"

According to Keen, he has experience as a meteorologist in the army and has “done some climate modeling when I was younger and less wise.” He does not mention receiving any training as a climatologist.

Tom Harris - mechanical engineer, director of the climate contrarian lobby group International Climate Science Coalition. Is not a climatologist.

"A few months ago, the Canadian Committee for the Advancement of Scientific Skepticism (CASS) issued a report regarding a slew of climate misinformation being taught at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada by Tom Harris. Somehow Harris, who is an engineer and communications specialist with zero climate research experience, and is the Executive Director of the Heartland Institute-funded International Climate Science Coalition, was put in the position to teach a class on climate and Earth science at Carleton University. "

I mean, 2, maybe?

She doesn't have the answers as far as i'm currently aware of her, is anything she's saying not included in IPCC reports? Is she taking credit for decades of work?

If she's promoting division, it's because it's already been promoted by liars and charlatans looking to cash in on the skeptical, "anti-left", conspiracy theorist believing masses. Why shouldn't she notice this and (what she thinks is best) fight back? Clearly decades of reports thousands of pages in length is not enough to persuade people, the only thing politicians listen to are threats, i certainly wouldn't blame that on her, she didn't start it, nor did the climatologists who wanted some increased movement - and got very little traction for that effort.

She needn't have existed had corporate entities took stock of what was known for decades, and had it's corrupted halls in Washington D.C. not been awash in handouts to stop any movement to hurt unmitigated profit.

It's selective quoting and you know it. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2019/03/one-part-of-greenland-ice-growing/

Take climate change out of the equation, agree to disagree, why would we not make the move to renewables?

Proof "facebook".

I didn't present this as proof, I presented it as an explanation of what settled science is.

Because it’s often ignored by the science deniers, it’s important to note that science is not a democracy, so there is no formal vote in some cocktail party to develop and create a scientific consensus. Occasionally, respected scientific societies will often publish a public statement on the scientific consensus for a particular scientific idea.

There are consensus statements on GMOs, climate change, and vaccines – this constitutes settled science.

'Settled science of climate change and vaccines – critiquing denialism again.'

The fact there's literally a thread is a testament to how much more useful she is than most anyone in this thread. How anyone would be so triggered by a 16 year old girl, is honestly hilarious.
Ah here comes StriderX to tell us all how bad we are for not thinking like him.

How's the weather up there btw?

Haha, that's great.

What amazes me is the people in this thread who think that the kids taking a day off school are fighting climate change.

Question to those people: how many kids taking a day off school would it take to fix the environment? :p

I could answer. None.

Yes, the planet has been colder, yes it has been warmer: climate change is a naturally occuring phenomenon. BUT If we keep getting warmer at the rate we're seeing, sea levels will rise and it will affect millions of peoples lives. We've been too slow to react to the problems we've been causing.

Exactly. Currently we trying to fight against nature. What we should be doing is what life on this planet did over the last 4.5 billion years, and Homo Sapience does the last 350,000 years.
Adapt or die.

Sea levels 2000 years ago were way higher than they are today. Just 2000 years, not some million or billion years.
The period Roman empire run supreme and population thrived in continental Europe, Caratacus was envisioning united Celtic kingdom on this isle, while the Han Dynasty and Parthian Empire were at their apogee.

We have the technology to adapt, yet we waste time and resources on trying to combat the planet natural process, regardless if we speed it up or not.
It doesn't matter if we go through temperatures rising or another ice age. What matters is to live us and the next generations.

And before some of the environmental fascists cry foul, I do not say to not protect the environment, but is unacceptable to promote something like electric cars are the best environmental solution, when clearly are more toxic for the environment and more pollutant than the average lifetime of a normal V8 petrol car. And you (the environmentalists) should be the first to stop using mobile phones and computers.
Go back to radio and landlines if you want to give the example.

Got to say I agree and that's my problem with her. She comes across as though she is an authority on climate yet knows nothing about it other than parroting what has been said already. What is needed are innovative solutions as the reality is that the population as a whole at least in the West wouldn't like to change their lifestyles enough to do what is potentially needed and that is what's tying the politicians hands. If they implemented the changes that are needed, people would in up in arms
